This is an absolute jewel. About 10 rooms located in an old palace situated on the hill next to Lisbon castle, with fantastic views of the city. The rooms are of varying sizes, with the small ones maybe a bit too small, but the rest quite palatial. The staff is exceptional and never seen. You feel you are living in your own castle. The owners, who live on the premises, are exceptional hosts. There's pool, no gym, free wifi throughout and an open bar.

Granted, this might not be to everyone's taste, but for us, this has been one of the hotel experiences that will stay with us for a very long time. Finally, it costs a fair amount of euros, but I wouldn't call it expensive as the experience is quite unique.

Beautiful little palace, but not worth the money.

Palacio Belmonte is a beautiful and nicely restored palace. Unfortunately the prices are outrageously high for what is offered. The smallest room is as cupboard for 400 Euros. Staying there feels like spending time at someones private home, almost intruding. This is definitely not a "five star" or a "luxury hotel".The garden is beautiful but badly looked after, the furniture is falling apart and there is just little space for chilling and hanging out. The service is extremely erratic, from ok to non existant. The overly praised library contains an embarassing collection of cheap page turners from all over the world, probably left overs from tourists.

Unfortunately not recommendable at all!

We stumbled across this beautiful place on our way up to the Castelo. In desperate need for food we quickly ordered the ham/cheese sandwich, cheese plate and some beers.

Well. It is a cheese plate that we will remember forever! In the history of all cheese plates, never has one been so welcome, so cheese-filled and so delicious - I think we actually giggled as we stuffed our faces. Apart from our new obsession - an Ovelha-type cheese - I don't really know what the other cheeses were but they were awesome. The sandwich was also delicious and has forced me to reconsider fresh oregano!

Location is spot on for daytime dining and so atmospheric. We sat indoors which was cool and quirky. Staff spoke excellent English and service was quick and discreet. We had got the tram up to the viewpoint near the Belmonte but easily walked back down the hill into town after eating.

This place is magical. Unlike a hotel in many ways, more like the home of wealthy eccentric friends in an exotic locale. The public rooms, the piano nobile, were filled with antiques and modern art. The gardens were strange and beautiful. And above all, the service was top notch.

We loved the palace and the service from Maria, we felt at home from the start (first thing Maria said: lets bring these young people to their nest). Walking through the palace is like a small adventure, so many amazing rooms. We stayed at the Gil Vincente suite which is an amazing room with a great terrace and a perfect view of the city. The swimming pool was also better than expected: it was like 38 degrees!! in Lissabon, so we really needed it. We didn't meet much other guests and we had a private pool so now and then! Though the other guests that we met had the same experience: everyone was really taking their time, relaxing and visiting the city of Lissabon. After staying at the palaceI really felt I had to give something back by writing my first review on this website.

Room Tip: Every room has a difference look and feel! It's a palace, not a hotel with standard/concrete roo...

Wow what an incredible hotel, probably the best I have ever stayed at! The Palace is second to none and restored to a very high standard. We stayed in the Bartolomeu de Gusamo suite located over three floors with amazing views from every level. The private terrace on the third floor is spectacular for breakfast, evening drinks or just sun bathing. The pool area is very relaxed and peaceful. Breakfast is delicious and can be taken throughtout the hotel.

Nothing is a problem for Maria and her team who catered for our every need and provided plenty of advice and tips for seeing the city, they all really put their heart and soul into the Palace.

This is a very special hotel which deserves recognition. I joined tripadvisor especially for this review.

We spent a few days in this hotel located in an astonishing old building however tariffs are absolutely outrageous and services are far from expectations! Prices range from € 400 (a cupboard!) to € 2,500, breakfast included. For some of the rooms the terrace is not accessible, hot water is at random, no light in the access corridor, no room service,no restaurant at night, no spa, no fitness centre, no TV, heating is not working in the bathroom, pool is small and water is cold. Place is charming and is worth seeing however not at this 5 stars tariff. Hotel is ideally located nearby the castle, it is calm and privileges peace and quietness, music and litterature available everywhere in the hotel. Nice but not sufficient to justify such prices
