Amazonia Lisboa Hotel

We booked this hotel and the strength of the price! We don't spend much time in the hotel when on holiday, all we really need is somewhere to sleep and wash but we'd prefer a private bathroom if possible, so I always scour the internet looking for the cheapest hotels rather than hostels.

The hotel is situated in a quiet part of Lisbon, about five minutes walk from the Rato metro station, which means it's easy to get straight into the centre pretty quickly. There is a lovely shaded square at the end of the street where we went in the morning for croissants and coffee - much cheaper than at the hotel, which I think was 8 Euros for breakfast.

The room itself was okay, although we did need to leave the air conditioning on all day to ensure a good night's sleep - maybe that says more about our English climate than the room though! The bathroom was showing signs of age (the odd cracked tile etc.) but was clean enough.

I must say that the service was very good. I sent them an email just a couple of days before arriving to ask if we could have a balcony room and they got back to me very quickly and confirmed that we had one. They were also happy to store our luggage when we arrived until our room was ready. They were also happy to call us a taxi upon checking out.

Overall, I'd be happy to return.

Very depressing rooms with very noisy aircon .. that you cannot leave on when you leave the room. Very bad standard on toilets ... Had to do plummer work to flush...and mold in the bath. Breakfast ... Well the bread was good. All in all a very overselling hotel not even in a very atractive area!

We have stayed for 3 nights in a very large triple room (quadruple in fact) and paid about 72 euros/room inc.breakfast through internet. They have changed the first room smelling food from kitchen.
Plus(+)
Area nearby av. de liberdade and marques de Pombal. Reasonable price and breakfast. Large triple room.
Minus(-)
Closet cover not matching to the closet. Door opening with a friction. Noise from plastic card hole when pushed in for electricity. Noise from the street even the window closed. Top covers of tables in the lobby lounge swollen. Lift is old. Facade of the hotel needs painting.

Nice hotel for the money re location and fair sizes rooms, all a bit tired but did what it said on the tin kinda thing. Good breakfast not too nice that there were the pastries which was good! End room in a corridor is a must if you are light sleeper as the middle rooms used to interconnect so wooden panel which used to be door is not good re noise......

Balcony nice to have with great view, pool same after hot day or even morning as some mornings were hot and the pool was nice to cool down in before heading out exploring.

Staff pleasant enough but not overly delighted when I asked for room change but got there in the end.

Would I go back yes but only to end room or top floor suite.

Me and my friends stayed for 6 nights in February, when is a low season. Hotel is very clean. Has large breakfast room with good choice of food (hot and cold and fresh fruit).
I stayed in a single room, and my TV wasn't working so they moved me to a room next door, next morning. My friends stayed in very large double bedroom.
Location is excellent. We were sightseeing and hotel was a good start point. close to metro and bus stop.

Was a little concerned before setting off about the Amazonia but convinced myself that we were in a city and it was only a room. To be honest if you go with that attitude then it is great - a great price in a good location. The rooms are basic and a bit tatty and the decorations make it look like a bad bed and breakfast place. Once you get over that though there are lots of good points. It is near Rato and Marques de Pombal metros. Walking into Lisbon is dead easy and it is only about 10 minutes to Principe. The staff were very helpful and sent up help when the fridge wasn't working and also showed me where the tram went from on our map. Drinks from the mini bar in your room are ridiculously cheap for a mini bar. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of hot water for showers with good towels. Air conditioning is noisy - I slept with the window open which is also noisy because of the planes but after the first day of walking up and down the hills of Lisbon you forget about it and sleep through the noise! The pool is tiny but it is nice to be able to at least sit outside and sunbathe or read. Some visitors will find the place too tatty but if you treat it as a place to sleep at a great price in a great city then it is OK. I felt safe in the hotel (the police station is next door!) plus the cleaning staff were really friendly. All in all I would recomment this place for those wanting value for money in Lisbon.

This hotel is a little gem. For the price we paid we had a clean, spacious room with great views over the city. The staff were friendly and helpful and the bar was well stocked (although don't order a JD and coke as these came to 6 EUR each!). The breakfast was varied and included in the price. Although the hotel website says it's in Barrio Alto it's a little further out than this, but the area is quiet and has a couple of nice restaurants nearby (I can recommend La Brusketta). The pool is small but a good place to chill out in the mornings. Can highly recommend this hotel for value for money.

Room Tip: Book online and you are likely to get a better rate and breakfast is included.
