Spacious rooms, we had a triple-bed room which looked like a suite; excellent breakfast with always fresh pineapple. Location can be seen as somewhat of a disadvantage but taxi fares in Lisbon are not as high as in other European cities, so the location is not a serious problem.
We walked to the city centre a few times, it took us 40 minutes of strolling and we enjoyed it as it was a kind of sightseeing.
The staff are really helpful, particularly if you want to rent a car, they can organize everything for you, you just sign the contract at the reception desk and pick up the car in front of the hotel.

This hotel does exaclty what it promises. Cheap and cheeful accomodation in a European capital. Yes it may need a little bit of refurbishment here and there, but if you are looking for something more luxurious then you need to increase your budget i'm afraid. Rooms were very comfortable. Comfortable beds, A/C, nice bathroom and a safe (which you need to leave a deposit for). Lock on the bathroom door wouldn't have gone amiss but then again who's going to walk in on you? Your room mate? Staff were friendly enough, didn't exact bend over backwards but were happy to order us a cab to the airport and answer any queries we had. Didn't use the pool but it basically looks like a plunge pool, handy for cooling off after exploring the city, and didn't have the hotel breakfast, although we went for a look and it didn't exactly look like "the best in Lisbon" as i read in a previous review.

Hotel is in a decent location, slightly north of the centre, although i would thoroughly recommend a buying a Lisboa card (allowing for free travel on public transport) should be your first port of call, as it is a 5 minute brisk walk in any direction to the nearest metro station, a very efficient service. Failing that, your legs are in for a right treat, as in case you didn't know, the city of Lisbon is largely lots of large hills joined together by some more smaller hills.

I have to say some of the criticism in the other reviews for this hotel are quite harsh. You get what you pay for and to be honest, this is more of a budget hotel, and does the job perfectly well. If you want a hotel for sleeping and showering, it's great.

This was a great hotel at a great price. The front desk attendants helped our group of 9 find taxis every night as well as gave us ideas of things to do around the city. Every afternoon when we came back to our rooms they had been cleaned and at night we were not bothered at all by any noise. Overall a great experience and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We've just returned from Lisboa, indulging in many things about Portugal which has become a country we love.

The Hotel Amazonia is a curious place, faded, yet charming. You'll hardly find a better breakfast anywhere in Portugal unless you pay heaps more for it, with a superb buffet of some of the world's finest orange and pineapple, and plenty to choose from for every member of the family.

The staff were uniformly friendly, and when there was meat in the scrambled eggs, made two orders, fresh, for the vegetarians in our clan. The cleaning staff were first-rate. We've never worked with better.

One bad thing: the internet is far too expensive, and despite claims at the desk one could click in and out of it, saving the 24-hour time in order to extend it across the whole of the stay, this proved false. A terrible deal, that.

We booked as part of a Neckarmann package from Brussels. Rooms seemed pricey for one-off reservations at the standard rate.

We walked from the hotel to the center of the city, and everywhere else we wanted to go. Metro connections, pleasant squares, and food shopping are all within easy reach.

We'd return.....

Cannot really find anything good to say about this hotel... Location was ok, not excellent... Price was really not cheap compared to quality... First of all, it took almost half an hour to check in, only one person at checkin and many people waiting. Internet is not free, it is expensive. Room was not cleaned properly, a lot of junk under the bed, classic! And the balcony door was broken, not possible to lock it - and my room was in 2nd floor pretty easily accessible from the yard. Very old and worn rooms overall, and one of the legs of the bed was broken so the bed was tilted to other side... Really bad experience, cannot recommend even if it is a bit cheaper.
