“Pleasantly surprised! ”
Reviewed 9 December 2013 via mobile

I was a bit dubious about staying here. But the hotel was fine. Very friendly staff. Rooms have seen better days... Definitely lacking light. The bathrooms can do with better draining. Breakfast was mediocre. But I was only here for two nights and was perfectly comfortable. There are metro stations and bus stops within walking distance.

What we need from our hotel when we are on a city trip is good bed, a nice warm shower, a hearty breakfast and the city center at walking distance. Hotel Amazonia hits all these boxes for a very affordable price. This is why I must rate this hotel as very good.
Complaints about stuff that should be refurbished and so on might be true, but is totally irrelevant regarding the prices of the room. Staff is, as mentioned before, very friendly and helpful. Our bus transfer for 82 people was not taken care for by the traveling agent and the reception arranged 21(!) taxi's within 10 minutes, so we could all still catch our plane back home. Nice job!
City center is at walking distance, but be aware that Lisbon is very hilly and you'll get tired soon. No problem, public transport and taxi's are really cheap.

Room Tip: Lower floors and street side floors can be noisy because of the hotel bar. We slept on floor 3 on th...

Our stay in Amazonia Lisboa Hotel was a nice stay in an average hotel.

When we arrived at the hotel we had a warm welcome at the desk of the reception. The girl took the time to tell us things about the city. Before that we weren't very happy at the airport. Because there wasn't a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. The website/information of the hotel told us there IS a shuttle-service what we could use but there wasn't. So we had to find out how to get to the hotel. It wasn't really a big problem but if you assume it and it isn't there....it's a pity.

After our check-inn we had to wait in the lobby, because our room was not ready. For us it was normal because it was only 11.00 am. The lobby is cozy, but the furniture is in an old condition. Only in the lobby it is possible to use wifi. You have to pay 5 euro for using it. I went to the toilet near the lobby but it looks like it wasn't cleaned for days so I immediatly run out of it and waited until our room was ready.

The room was basic but nice! You have got everything what you need to stay over for a couple of days. Every day the room was cleaned by Eduarda! She is starting very early in the morning and works so hard. A big compliment for her! A very nice lady for the guests in the hotel especially for us. Every morning she wishes us a beautiful day and our room was cleaned so very well.

The hotel is near a big shopping mall and if you walk for 10 minutes you are at the place where the touristic busses are leaving. Near the hotel there are some nice restaurants.
The hotel is in a quiet street. We weren't disturbed by noise or party people.

I recommend this hotel for people who want to do a city-trip. It's a basic hotel, with nice staff and near the highlights of Lisboa.

For this price and location, this is a good choice if you want to discover Lisbon and surroundings and not spend too much time in your room.

Advantages:
- Good location, 20-30 minutes walk from the city centre, 5 minutes walk from metro station Rato, some restaurants nearby
- There is a swimming pool, it's a very small one but usually not very busy during the day so at least you can get some tan
- The rooms are clean, and dirty towels are changed almost every day
- Service in case of technical problems is fast and correct; my toilet was not flushing when I arrived and someone came to fix it within an hour.

Disadvantages:
- Very noisy, which may make it hard to sleep for some people. There is a constant noise, probably of some old airco system, which I really had to get used to. I think this noise can be heard in every room. You also regularly hear airplanes crossing over. And the walls are very thin, so you can hear your neighbours very well, especially when they are walking/talking in the hallway.
- There is no soap. I asked for this at the reception, but I'm not sure if they understood me because they just gave me some shampoo and shower gel samples. After two days I decided to just buy some cheap soap myself.

I went there with my boyfriend, they were really friendly and attentive. The room was GREAT, very good value for a great comfort (I was so lazy to get out of bed!)

Location is great, taxi, bonde, metro, everything is easy in Lisbon.

The staff really helped us to get to the main attractions (it was not a planned trip, we had to stay 2 days in Lisbon to get a cheaper flight from Paris to Rio), and I visited great places (Castelo de Sao Jorge) thanks to the staff.

Pretty average, not easy to find and quite a way from the town centre but taxis were very cheap. Not recommended for the elderly or infirm because of the steep hills everywhere in the city - but for a group of young lads, no problem! Excellent breakfast! Staff very friendly. Swimming pool very small and not much of a surround area but overall, you get what you pay for!

According to www.ebookers.ch

1.Distance from airport to hotel: 6 km (google map: 7.4 km - 9.7 km)
2.Airport transfer service: should be written ‘not free’ because it costs as expensive as a taxi) and Wi-Fi access should be written ‘have to pay with credit card’
3.Payment due upon arrival: actually the payment was deducted from the credit card immediately after the confirmation.
4.High-speed Internet facilities: there was only one computer and it was out of order. I wonder if it is like that all the time.
5.Torre de Belem nearby: (google map: 9-12 km, 13-16 min) it took us more than an hour by metro and bus.
6.In-room safe: the one in our room was sealed (there was a place for a safe, but the safe was missing).

The positive points are:
1.room and bathroom are clean and spacious
2.located in a quiet area
3.email correspondence very efficient and clear
4.personnel is friendly
5.price is reasonable
6.2 windows make the room very bright
7.big choice of restaurants within walking distance
