“beautiful house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 November 2013

really loved this place. lots to see and take your time in each room, staff don't follow you around and make you feel like a criminal like some other places, you can take photos too. small charge to enter but well worth it. great view from the front of the building over the water.

“Decorative arts intoduce visitors to the culture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2013

Furniture, paintings, ceramics, musical instruments,a carriage or two, all housed in the 17th C. former city palace of the Count of Azurara on the Largo das Portas do Sol in Alfama, the heart of Lisbon's historic center. The banker Ricardo do Espirito Santo Silva, whose family was one of the richest in Portugal, acquired the palace in 1947 and donated his collection to the museum. It's a window to the country's history and the outside cultures that influenced Portugal.

“Aristocratic life”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2013

An atmospheric museum on the 28 tram route and only €4 entrance. Furniture, paintings and tapestries from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a period building and does not have air conditioning. Staff were very nice when advising me no photos. Museum item descriptions are comprehensive and made for a rewarding spontaneous visit.

“Charming atmosphere - just the right size”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2013

A hand-selected collection that reflects the tastes & interests of its creator. Fascinating mix of pieces scattered throughout a circuit of palace rooms that give a wonderful feel for a city "palace". Unless you're an expert the entire displayed collection can be covered in a little over an hour so no fear of "Stendhal syndrome".
