“good hotel, good location”
Reviewed 3 May 2010

Hotel Villa Rica (or VIP Exceutive Villa Rica as it's sometimes known) is a more business traveller oriented hotel. As a result, you pay a bit more but everything is of a pretty high standard.

First off, the location is good. It's very close to a metro stop and also a major train station. It's also close to the stops the aerobus and aeroshuttle use. To find the hotel from the stop continue walking down the street from the stop ( walk in the same direction the bus was going in). When yo0u get to the corner, turn right. You should see the hotel in the not-far distance. Walk a block, then turn left and cross the street. It's 20-30m from the street corner.

The rooms are pretty big by European standards and you do get free internet access. Make sure to walk with your own network cable though as they charge you 3.50 euros for buying one. There's no wifi.

Breakfast is pretty expansive but not cheap. There is a small grocery around the corner from the hotel for those so inclined. The hotel has 2 restaurants (other than where breakfast is served) - one that's pretty upscale and a cheaper one. I only ate at the cheaper one and wouldn't really recommend it. My soup came cold and the other food was pretty tasteless.

Staff in the hotel are reasonably friendly and efficient. I had no issues with them at all. Overall, I would recommend staying at this hotel.

I stay at the Villa Rica several times a year, and i love its proximity to both the airport (10 mins and no more than 8€ in a taxi) and more importantly for me it is close to the area of town where I have an office.

This hotel is always a bargain and better value than hotels double the price elsewhere. Rooms for one person often have 2 single beds rather than a double, and one of the beds seems always to be firm the other soft. If this is really the case then may other hotels in the world discover the same idea.

The breakfast buffet is copious, and being Portugal there is a slight emphasis on the sugary and fattening stuff, but a decent healthy breakfast is still possible.

The hotel fitness centre has a small but adequate pool and a serviceable weights room with a few cardio machines. Aboslutely fine for a good workout when on the road, and never gets too busy. A word about the opening hours though, the 08.00am start on weekdays is neither use nor ornament. A 07.00 am start would seem the minimum standard, but i guess the whole exercise culture is not really engrained here yet.

All in all I like the Villa Rica and it is where I stay almost all the time. If you are looking for a hotel next to the main tourist sites then look carefully at its location. It isnt too far out, but you may find somewhere that is closer. But in a town where taxis are so cheap and plentiful staying at the Villa Rica is a good option.

I came here with work mates in order to provide a business presentation on behalf of the company I work for. The place (and rooms) is very clean, great buffet breakfast, a walking distance of historic places (around 4 blocks) and good customer service. The window view is pretty average, bed is not confortable (cheap mattress) and Cable TV scuks. It is a good deal for the budget traveler, though.

We stayed there for only two days, and found its location very comfortable. It is couple of stops from the airport (if you use airexpress) and the subway and railway station is in walking vicinity, wich we used to get to the other part of Portugal. The staff was friendly and helpful though it seemed that they are a little affraid of clients. Rooms were great with that already mentioned matted glass separating bathroom from bedrom. Breakfast was fine too. Fast internet connection with cable provided at the reception desk. The only drawback is that you shouldn't look out of your window, because it faces some kind of abandoned construction site. But considering the price and everything abovesaid this hotel looks like the best value.

I bought my trip through internet, and I found the Villa Rica Hotel, one of the bests hotels that I have been.
Excelent staff, good brekfast, large room and a larghe inside swimming pool, and a rmantic restaurant Near of the underground and a few minutes from the airport.
It was a good deal.

In the breakfast restaurant, I saw an employee shout and insult a customer who wanted to seat at a table to finish her breakfast. She had the bad idea to go to the bathroom and to come back 2 minutes after the end of breakfast time.

When we arrived, we were on our own to carry our luggages and find the room, which was very cold. We managed to put the heating on, and waited 1 hour for it to warm up.

Finally, the distance from the center and lack of transportation led to an unexpected 20 euros daily expense in taxi.
