In the heart of Campo de Ourique, this restaurant offers a great selection of truly delicious, hearty Portuguese food. The waiters are among the nicest in the world, and you can be sure to be welcomed like family. The only downside is the decoration of the space, which is a bit somber and closed out. Better for a rainy day :)

We had a fabulous night at this delightfully authentic Portuguese restaurant. Our waiter, sorry, can’t remember his name, spoke English perfectly. They bring a few appetizers to the table and you choose what appeals to you. What ever you have you pay for. Then he took the time to explain the menu to us as it is only Portuguese. All of the food we ordered was delicious. Plenty of it too. Still we had to share the delicious deserts too.
A lovely night in a friendly, and classy atmosphere.

Every neighborhood should have a restaurant like O Magano.
The menu is not large but hits the high notes of Lisbon regional dishes.
The waiters are knowledgeable and efficient. They helped to make our meal memorable with excellent menu suggestions and compatible wines that were excellent and well priced.
A group of small dishes will be presented when you order. Feel free to pick and choose those that you want and send back the remainder so that you are not charged.
Make a reservation. When we left at 10:30, there was a line out the door.

We loved staying in the lively, attractive Campo de Orique neighborhood. For dinner one evening, the three of us reserved early, at opening time. The restaurant delivers multiple first courses to the table, and of course you will be charged for them if you indulge; we wanted to, and were glad we did (accompanied by bread; waters; and glasses of wine for each of us): lima beans with tiny sausage; octopus salad; thin-sliced ham; tiny chicken pot pies; and excellent stuffed mushrooms. One of us had a brilliant local dish: grouper served on bread and then with a tomato bisque ladled over the top, with a poached egg atop that (a very, very generous serving of everything). Another had local chicken and pork sausages with a strong green vegetable (perhaps escarole)--very tasty, but not everyone will be prepared for or like the somewhat creamy consistency of the sausage fillings. The third, advised by a server, simplified the pork dish, choosing pounded pork simply salted and cooked in the skilled, served with lemon--bracingly delicious, but it would have been better still to ask for vegetables instead of a big basket of crisps. Our dinner came to 113 euros; that could have been managed down easily with fewer starters, but we chose what we did, and were happy we did so, and happy to enjoy the crisp service and truly local dishes O Magano serves--and obviously with great success to a local, neighborhood clientele who are known regulars.

Clearly a local gem in the heart of Campo de Ourique. No menus in English but just let the fabulous staff guide you through the menu of Portuguese and Alentejo classics. From the magnificent starters (tapas style), to fabulous hearty soups like the wonderful Sopa de Cação (tubarão azul) to the vitela no forno...to the desserts and cheeses. Phenomenal wine list and properly served (temperatures and glasses). Service is second to none. One of my absolute favorites in Lisbon.
