“Worse smell ever!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

This hotel is br far the worse I stayed in. The smell in the hallways make you throw up. Someone in our group told me she was afraid to stay in the eoom by herself. They charge for internet i the rooms. The food in the bar is horrible and super expensive. I would not stay again, if they paid me. The onle good thing about this hotel is the service. The staff was very nice.

Room Tip: Dont stay in this hotel

We spent eight days their and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mundial is in a great location with excellent transport links to whole city; particularly the Tram 28 service which takes you around some of the old parts of Lisbon............and it starts from just in front of the hotel ! Hotel is very cosmopolitan and friendly with excellent, and caring, staff. Rooms are certainly 4 Star and housekeeping is first class. Great selection at breakfast and the hotel's Sao Jorges bar is good for a nightcap. Lots of decent small restaurants nearby, (1 min walk), and dozens of larger ones withing strolling distance. Even the "touristy" ones offer excellent food and good prices. The people of Lisbon are very friendly and crime rate is low. However, driving is a bit manic, but why bother when you have such great tram, metro and bus links. Lisbon is a fascinating city with great history but is quite hilly in places. You have to visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor overlooking Praca Martim Moniz, the big square opposite front of the hotel.

Location is excellent. That's the best part of this hotel.
Rooms are clean, but aged and accommodation is poor. Personnel at reception is not friendly, nor helpful.
Despite otherwise informed, internet on the room is not free! Only free internet at the lobby! Reason??
And yes, on October 30th the second pc was still not working...

This hotel I can recommend.
It is situated in the heart of Lisbon.
You are close to everything.
The bus number 28 has a stop outside the hotel.
The breakfast buffet is great and delicious.
The staff is veru helpful

Location was fine but the hotel needs a firm hand in charge. The air conditioning in our room did not work, it was fortunate that we did not need it. Breakfast was poor, the plates were all cold even for the hot food. In most 4 star hotels a waiter/waitress will offer you coffee/tea (various types); not here; you have to help yourself and the only tea available was English Breakfast; the machine automatically filled the cup to the brim so you had to tip some out and then walk to the other end of the buffet to add cold milk. Most of the guests were on group trips and were international but the breakfast was not fully international! The hotel recommended and sold tickets for the Gray Line open top buses - but may of those trips started from a location over half an hour's walk away uphill. By contrast the Yellow Bus Company had a pick up 100 yards from the hotel and the main pick up was less than 10 minutes away on the flat at the sea front. So, if you want a bus tour of the city, ignore the hotel recommendation and use Yellow.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear have a good view of the castle. Whilst they should be quieter than the front a nei...

We were booked here at the beginning and end of a Globus tour of Portugal. There were three other big tour groups there too. The hotel looks old and in need of a good cleaning. It is located near a small square which links to a larger plaza then a long pedestrian mall lined with stores, bakeries and cafes leading all the way down to the Tagus River. Next door to the hotel is a handicrafts shop selling Portuguese tea towels, linens, tablecloths and a few cork items. Just outside the hotel lobby you can catch a public tram up to Castelo de São Jorge (St. George’s Castle) which is a strenuous uphill walk (hence the handy tram) but once on top there is a great view out over the city. The Lisboa Card gets tourists free or discounted bus/metro/site entrances for about 32 euros for a 48-hour period. There is a view of the castle and hillside from the hotel bar but we went to the rooftop terrace where all the furniture had been removed (even though it was early September) for an even better look. Mundial rooms (we had 301 at the back of the hotel at the start of the tour and room 412 at the front for the return last night) are basic with thin foam slab pillows. Bathrooms have grey tiles. Rooms at the back have no view; rooms at the front overlook a park where concerts and entertainment can be loud at night. If you cannot sleep walk over and join the crowd. The breakfast buffet was disappointing with runny ‘scrambled’ egg stuff, undercooked bacon, cheese sliced paper-thin and a coffee machine that dispensed brown liquid at a painfully slow pace. There was always a lineup for coffee. My key card did not work three times in a row when I went to get my bag and check out. Reception finally sent a porter up with me and his key card did not work either. Have no idea what the problem was. Don’t really care either because there are better hotels in Lisbon in the same piece range.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are brighter but can have a lot of street noise. Rooms at the back are darker but...

A friend had recommended this hotel. He was correct about the central location. But the rooms are a bit tired. Pillows are thin and hard. I could not get hot water to stay hot for the duration of a shower. On the other hand, the service is top notch - very friendly and helpful both at the front desk and among the bell staff. Breakfast was adequate but not the best we had in Portugal. The roof top bar is a must for a great view of central Lisbon.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the square get a bit of early morning traffic noise but really not much.
