“LOVELY designy place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2013

Far more than a B&B... it's a design paradise! My friend and me really loved staying for our second night in Lisbon at Casa de Santos - first night we stayed at it's also absolutely stunning 'sister' Casa do Carmo! We can SOOO recommend this place - it's central (all the lovely bars and restaurants are in walking distance), lovely old building with uber high ceilings and interiour to die for! Unfortunately we only had a super short stay - we arrived in the evening, and had to catch a flight next day early morning - so hardly could enjoy all the wonderful things... But - I'll certainly be back! Casa de Santos has several bedrooms (we got a huuuuge room with a separate sitting area, a stunning huge bed - simply amazing), two shared bathrooms (I guess that's the only thing to note as a possible downside, but worked fine for us), a laaarge shared kitchen & amazing also extremely spacious living area with several couches & sofas and large windows. If you're up for something special, a little treat and even if you're only in Lisbon for a few days, it's THE PERFECT PLACE to stay as you're so close to everything! Thanks again to the lovely hosts! x

This B&B has nice large rooms (suite), a very good bed and the breakfast was very nice as well.
Staff very friendly. Not everyone speaks English, but be patient they call someone who does and than they help you as much as they can.

The B&B is not suitable for people who need the elevator, because there is none availabe. For us no problem, but a need to know. Furthermore the reception is on the first floor to the right, also nice to know, while you can feel a bit lost once you entered the building and there is not much to see (no signs).

We were picked up by Pedro, he showed us around. As soon as you look into his Portuguese eyes you must feel at home :-)

Beautiful decor, large bedrooms, very comfy beds and superb service - Thank you. Centrally located, although on the outskirts of Barrio Alto. Easy walk to Cais de sodre station, and train to beaches. Walkable also to Alfama, Barrio Alto, and 5 mins to tram 28 stop. Highly Highly recommend. We went as a group of 10, and found sharing the bathrooms easy.

Very large and tastefully decorated rooms with comfy beds. The breakfast was amazing and a perfect way to start the day off. The staff was friendly, even if it seemed a bit forced at times, and the young man working the breakfast was not the friendliest person. Great location very close to Bairro Alto and a short walk to the bus, tram, and metro.

Now for the asterisk. Had a bit of trouble finding the place. A very small sign is the only clue and none of the locals we asked knew where it was. The shared bathrooms were a nightmare! Although this was mostly due to the other guests not cleaning up after themselves, I would have thought that the staff would be checking. It shouldn't be the guests responsibility to clean up after other inconsiderate guests.

The street noise was extremely loud on the weekend, and that was with the windows closed. Could be a problem in the summer as there's no air conditioning so you'll want the windows open.

With that said, overall, this was an above average property and great value for the money if you can tolerate the shared bathrooms.

Room Tip: Don't bother as we were given the room we specifically asked not to be put in and they were far...

Great place! Totally recommended! We've spent 5 days in Lisbon and enjoyed the city a lot and definitely an important part of that experience was out stay in Casa de Santos. Why:
- very nice and clean room, great interior of the place made with love and taste
- good breakfast with famous Portugese egg tarts
- free WIFI
- perfect location: 10min walk to Bairro Alto - area with lots of restaurants and the pubs, 15min walk to the centre, 10min walk to railway station with train to Belem and Cascais
- nice and very friendly owner ready to advise and help you (they prepared us breakfast the night before as we were departing very early in the morning

Room Tip: If you stay in the room on 1st floor next to the entrance, then you can hear people walking in/out...

Staff here (especially Maria and Fatima, both of whom speak English well, and are competent and eager to help) made the stay especially nice. The rooms are gorgeous, each unique in decor, and the beds are comfortable. We shared baths (usually we stay ensuite), and bath access was adequate. Amenities were nice -- bathrobes, a kitchen with access if you're on floor 1, and internet that frequently worked (and frequently didn't). The breakfast was outstanding with a homemade item included daily. The location was good, near a metro station (cais do sadre), which is convenient for Belem and all metro stops; it's not as convenient for city center stuff, but we like to walk, and used lots of public transportation, and it worked well for us. Be sure to request a room away from the street (see more below). There are no elevators in this lovely old building, so be ready. Also, the building facade gives no evidence of a B&B or anything nice inside - almost looks abandoned, but the address is good. We were reluctant to be left by the cabbie, but the narrow street requires it. Ring the Santos bell and the lovely world inside opens to you.

Room Tip: If possible do not take a room on the street - very noisy, and especially avoid the Principe Real (a...

We loved our stay in Lisboa. This B&B was a big part of it. It is a charming place with a great staff. We felt it was quite central as well with everything in walking distance (although be aware one needs to be fit to walk up and down the Lisbon's hills). The breakfast get a lot of praise here, we wished it would have been a little different in the course of one week, the coffee was quite bad but all in all, it really had everything one could wish for (In a very friendly setting)
Don't hesitate one second to go there.
