This hotel is one of the best places to stay at in Lisbon, even though reaching the hotel might be a bit challenging at first. The surrounding is phenomenal, and the hospitality they provide is amazing ! I Love it ! Definitely recommend it

Room Tip: You must get the balcony view ! Waking up in the morning and drinking coffee on the balcony is price...

We couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Phenomenal location inside the wall of the beautiful old Castelo do Sao Jorge. High up on a hill with beautiful views from many of the rooms. Service was friendly, professional and impeccable. Beautiful terrace that is frequented by wild peacocks that live around the Castle. Classy, elegant decor.

Fantastic hotel built into the stone wall of the old castle. Peaceful location yet within easy walking distance to the shopping, attractions, tram and bus routes of Lisbon. The peacocks that roamed the grounds were a beautiful addition. Very pleasant and cosy guest lounge area. Many rooms had their own small balcony with views into the garden courtyard area. Traditionally decorated reflecting the style of Lisbon with candles creating an elegant atmosphere in the evenings. Helpful and pleasant staff.

My wife and I had the absolute pleasure of stopping here again over the weekend of the 7th of February for 3 nights.

We were immediately recognized on our arrival and our greeting was a genuine one. Although a couple of hours early (we intended just to leave our bags and check in) our room was already waiting for us - perfect - a glass (or 2) of complimentary port in the room and out we went. The fantastic taxi driver (Felipe) we met on our first visit was at hand (Message me for his details if you really want a reliable driver, friendly with excellent English) and Lisbon became our oyster once again.

There's not a lot I can add to my initial review in October 2012 to be honest.

The staff have remained the same as has the very professional way in which they conduct themselves, this is without exception.

Nice comfortable beds, the pillows have been improved and thus the quality of my sleep, thank you.

This is a small, peaceful, hotel, you should stay here if you want a relaxing break in the old part of Lisbon.

I will be returning soon, that is absolutely certain.

Thank you all for a wonderful stay.

We reserved what turned out to be the "penthouse" room with a lovely view of the Tagus (Tejo) River for a two night stay. We arrived on a crack of dawn flight from Newark, but fortuitously our room was ready and we were able to check in immediately. Be forewarned, many taxis won't drive up the narrow steep cobblestone street to the hotel entrance, so unless you alert the hotel to your arrival time (they have a golf cart for luggage), you may have to roll your luggage uphill for a few blocks. We weren't overloaded, so for us it was just part of the adventure. The rooms tend to be a bit dark and rustic, but we were there during a sunny time, so it didn't matter. Shower water pressure strength and internet strength were strong - impressive in a Heritage Hotel. The common areas are lovely (lots of Peacocks and fountains). The breakfast for 12 Euros is a must do - they had Nespresso cappucinos, fresh squeezed juices (and Cava if one wants to indulge in a Mimosa at breakfast), and the usual European assortment of cheeses, meats, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, etc. Plus sardines! The dining area is in a large yet cozy setting, with good light and garden view. The other guests were a variety of nationalities -- everyone in a good mood. The staff could not have been nicer. We would certainly stay at this hotel again and highly recommend it.

Solar Do Castelo is truly a romantic shelter in the birthplace of Lisbon - within the walls of São Jorge Castle at the top of Alfama. It is a small 18-century mansion surrounding a noble patio, built on the site of the former kitchens of the Royal Palace. Apart from the genuine antiques, most part of the furniture was specially designed for the hotel in a medieval contemporary style.
