“Great place to stay in Lisbon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Corinthia Hotel in Lisbon. The hotel is decorated beautifully and the rooms are very comfortable. The staff are excellent and super helpful. The location is not central but the metro across the street is very handy and taxis are readily available and not expensive, so I wouldnt consider the location a problem at all. The yellow bus tour also has a stop outside the hotel which is great for sightseeing. We did not eat at the hotel but we prefer to eat out when on holiday anyway. The swimming pool is nice, just a pity the sauna and jacuzzi are extra!

Room Tip: We were on the 18th floor and had a great view

We had an executive room which was about EUR 30 more per night than the standard rooms. For this we had a spacious, clean room and access to the executive lounge which offered a good range at breakfast including an omlette and pancake chef in the mornings and complimentary food and canapes in the evening. Definitely got our money back as we had breakfast and pre dinner drinks each day.

Location is more in the financial district and is a 45 minute walk into town. Lovely and leisurely in the summer sun although might not be your cup of tea. Buses and taxis are easy enough to get from the hotel but don't be mistaken in thinking that this is a central hotel.

Pool was a decent size and there was a separate sun deck for sunbathers. Both are on the small size however so can get crowded when busy. Gym and studio are of a good size and well equipped along with a gym staff member on duty.

Room Tip: If you plan to eat breakfast and have pre dinner drinks every day the executive upgrade is worth it.

A very good hotel, very friendly staff, would definitely recommend this hotel. The standard of the hotel was very high. The waiters at the restaurant were very attentive and friendly. The food was lovely at breakfast and had a good variety of food. The drinks at hotel were slightly expensive but that was you get in a five star hotel. We choose the junior suite and have to say it was a lovely room with nice views. I have no complaints about the hotel just the location was slightly far from the centre but the train stop was very close by to jump on to, to get to the centre. All in all if you want a high standard hotel then this is the one to go to.

Booked this hotel as part of their 50% off sale meaning we more than got value for money.

Location: Took around an hour from passing through airport security, to getting to metro station, working out tickets and riding the pink line all the way and from walking from metro to hotel entrance. That whole journey cost about £1!! Absolute bargain, there is no need to book an airport taxi.

The closest station, which happens to be the one for the zoo, is literally 2 minutes walk away max. I can't believe some people have criticised location, you an be in Lisbon centre within 10 minutes! Lisbon has a very efficient metro service. There are a couple of good restaurants nearby, banks and pastry shops which are perfect for breakfast.

Staff: Very attentive and easily contactable. The fact that the GM responds to these reviews says it all. They take pride in their hotel and the service they provide. The guest services team recommended excellent restaurants and assisted with our day trip to Sintra. The chap that was the head barman/bar manager in the bar with the piano also excelled in service and was happy to discuss drinks on offer. The only improvement I that could be noted was the restaurant staff who needed to be prompted to clear plates during the buffet.

Facilities: The Aqua Thermal area of the spa is worth the extra cost. Pure relaxation. The main indoor pool was too cold and as such didn't stay in it very long. You will need a swim cap and they are available at reception for a very reasonable price...cheaper than I could see in Tesco! The bar with the piano was brilliant and a perfect setting to enjoy a few cocktails and nibbles.

Room: Beautiful. We now want a king bed at home. Bed was very comfortable and bathroom was lush. As with most hotels, A/C wasn't that effective. We had it on lowest setting and highest fan but was still kind of warm so opened one of the windows.. There are more power sockets in the room than you first realise as some are in a hidden compartment in the desk! Only found this out when g/f used the hairdryer and saw the note. It does lack sockets next to the bed which is unfortunate. Bathroom had heated mirrors so didn't completely steam up and the complimentary toiletries were very good.

I often read, and have probably contributed to, slow lifts in hotels or there not being enough. Even when I 'checked in' on the app FourSquare someone had left a comment complaining about lifts. The hotel obviously acted on this. There are four lifts available, you enter your floor number on the pad on the outside and it tells directs you to the next available lift so you know which door to stand outside, it then remembers your floor number so you just get it and it takes you there without having to press any more buttons! Simple things and all that, but we loved those lifts!

The buffet in the restaurant is very good (minus the point about clearing plates..oh and not chilling the water!) and the chef on the live cooking station deserves a medal. Absolutely flat out cooking your meats to order and to a high standard.

Yes there were a lot of businessmen/women in the hotel, but to me, that is a good thing. Business' would not put their staff in rubbish hotels. I spotted that British Airways send staff there.. Having many businessmen/women there meant that we avoided the many undesirables you could run into in other hotels!

I think it's obvious that I would definitely stay there again. Far enough out the hustle and bustle to relax but close enough to feel involved.

Thank you to the team for an enjoyable stay!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your lovely and extensive review regarding your experience at the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon.

In Corinthia we believe the only smart way to improve is by listening and taking action in our guests concerns. For me it’s fundamental to reply to all reviews and ensure I’m on top of what our guests say regarding the experience they had. The lifts have been upgraded a few months ago and I’m happy that you noticed and enjoyed it.

Thank you for your preference and we look forward to welcoming you back in the spirit of Corinthia the Craftsmanship of Care.

The Corinthia Hotel in Lisbon was the last stop on our touring of Portugal. what a treat!
this is a beautiful hotel with an amazing spa and staff.
We were on the executive floor which gave us access to the executive lounge.
this was well worth it! we enjoyed relaxing in the lounge upon arrival and after touring the city.
the breakfast was also fantastic.
the location is a bit far from the old downtown area but that was fine with us. we took advantage of the hop on/hop off yellow tour bus that stops one block from the hotel. we were able to see the entire city by using this option. We did miss the last bus back but a quick cab right had us right back to our wonderful hotel.
we found a great Italian restaurant on the street behind the hotel called "Sixteen". It was nice to have a restaurant in walking distance with cuisine other than Portuguese (after a week of Portuguese food we needed a break!). We kind of had to pull this out of the concierge - I have no idea why. It was great pasta with very good service. the hotel does lack in dining (only one restaurant with buffet) options but I think in the nicer weather when they can open the outdoor dining option that will help.
there are many 5 star options in Lisbon but I think we were lucky enough to find the best!

Room Tip: book the executive level. well worth it.

Hi Reuben

Today is my last day in Corinthia, I am very happy with the standard of the hotel and the services

Quality of the food is also very good , I have to mention by name one of your chefs Stephen Thottathil whose exceptional service to us has to be mentioned by name
All the waiting staff are very attentive
Front desk staff are efficient
The door man is always with a smile
One suggestion - it might be a good idea to increase the choice in the vegetarian dishes that the hotel offers

Not just us but I heard several of the other guests mentioning not enough vegetarian choices

Hopefully next time I will come back to corinthia when I am in Lisbon again and I am going to Hungary very shortly so I may have made my choice of hotel already

Thanks for the hospitality

Regards

Raj
