“Good value but SLAM”
Reviewed 5 April 2011

The strangely drab reception area fronts a converted palace with an array of well decorated internal and courtyard public areas. Ample space to hang out during the hotter summer months or colder winter nights.
The guest rooms and bathrooms are relatively small, but well provided with a good standard of decoration. Beds are comfortable and the hotel offers a choice of pillows. Strength of room lighting leaves something to be desired for aging eyes and the noise from the corridor was disturbing when fellow guests decided to have a late night conversation. Bedroom doors noisy.
While relatively convenient for the airport and the business district, it is less convenient for tourists, although 5 minutes walk from two metro lines. Big downside is the very limited choice of restaurants locally, but the hotel has a Michelin recommended establishment
Annoyingly the Internet in the rooms is wired (who carries a PC these days?) and wireless is a paid service
Good value, though probably a four and a half star hotel rather than 5 stars

Really enjoyed my stay in the Real Palacio. It is a beautiful hotel with very helpful staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Lisbon. It s about a 30 min walk to the main shopping areas, but its all down hill so not such a big problem. Breakfast was excellent (very good selection, although not always hot)
Drinks in the bar are rather expensive.

I am far from a customer impossible to please and hate reading reviews on here form fellow Brits who moan about everything including the weather but please take my word that this hotel is most definitely not worthy of the 5 stars it uses to advertise itself.
On the positives it is kept immaculately clean and the staff are very helpful at every level. It's location is ideal for getting into the city centre with the Parque Metro station a 5 minute walk away and a supermarket even nearer. The reception and dining areas are very plush and the complimentary health spa is a nice touch even though is was not staffed during our stay there and the clean towels weren't always available. The breakfasts are very good with a wide selection available but this is where the negatives start to creep in! You have to wait to be poured tea or coffee by the overstretched waitresses who are so busy clearing away you could be easily missed on their rounds. On the same note there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room which we found very unusual especially for a 5 star. The mini bar though is always stocked with one thing that definitely is 5 star rated in the hotel, the prices!
Now to the biggest gripe, the room.We booked a double room and got two singles pushed together which we complained about the next morning. They moved us later that evening to a room with a double bed which was as hard as wood,a blocked bathroom sink and the sliding wardrobe doors fell off as we moved them! After complaining we were told it would all be fixed by the time we came back after dinner. The sink was indeed unblocked but the doors fell off again. We were moved again for our final night to the palace wing of the hotel and the room was smaller than the first two and the bed was as comfortable as sleeping on the floor.
So we had three nights in three different rooms on three different floors! We laughed about it on the way home and though it didn't spoil out trip it did detract from it a little as there is nothing worse that sleep deprivation especially when sightseeing and the strain on the system of trying to take everything in!
If you really do expect 5 star then do not stay here,if 4 star is OK and hard beds aren't a problem then I would recommend it.

Stayed in this hotel four nights in february. There's nothing interesting (shops or restaurants) in the neighbourhood, but the nearest metro station (Sao Sebastiao) is just some 200m away, making it a perfect base to explore the city.
The place is spotless clean, quiet and comfortable. Air conditioning is a bit noisy, but apart of this the rooms are completely soundproof. My room was at the first floor and I couldn't hear any noise coming from the road outside.
The staff is friendly and helpful, they provide an excellent service.
Breakfast choice is really wide, food is fresh and well prepared. Sometimes the breakfast room could be a little overcrowded, but hotel staff is efficient in keeping the queue as short as possible.
I have no information about restaurant or spa (didn't use it).
I can't really say if this is a 5-star or rather a 4-star hotel, but it's a very good one anyway. Thanks to it's location, cleanliness, services, elegance and staff's professionality I'm definitely happy to recommend Real Palacio, and would definitely stay here again.

Very pleasant staff but rooms are really 4 star. Quite convenient for metro, Corte Ingles and Calouste Gulbenkian. For fun evenings and excellent tapas go to basque restaurant around the corner from hotel.

First the positives. The hotel is in a good location with the metro close by. Also nearby is the El Corte Ingles department store. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean, the fixtures and fittings are in keeping and in good repair. The rooms are large by European standards. For breakfast there is one of the largest selections that I have ever come across. The gym and spa facilities are very good and, at the times that I went there, not crowded.
There were some aspects that disappointed, small things when taken in isolation. On arrival I expected to be shown to my room but was only shown to the elevator. The beds are very firm, too firm for me but some may find it beneficial. The bedroom has no facilities for making a hot drink and on the same subject I found that most of my time at breakfast was spent waiting for one of the hard working waiting staff to bring coffee around - which by then I was desperate for. The cooked breakfast items were cold (I tried at the beginning and at the end of breakfast time) although to be fair on one occasion the mexican (scrambled) eggs were not quite cold. Rooms have internet access, so long as you thought to bring a modem cable with you. Wireless access is confined to the lobby area or business suite - and is not free.
For me the difference between a 5 star and a 4 star hotel rests with the little things and I think the Real Palacio could do better in this regard.

We, one adult with two teenagers, spent a few nights there to celebrate the new year. It was no problems for them to book a double room with an extra bed for one child. Great breakfast with many choices, even for picky persons :) Excellent fitness center in the hotel, included in the price. Elegant entrance and space with sofas around. The day we arrived they had live harp music! It felt majestic.
