Honestly, I had serious doubts whether to write this review: I liked the place so much that I would prefer nobody to know about it, so that next time they have available rooms for us... Too selfish, isn't it?
This place is a newly built apartment hotel on the slopes of Alfama hill just in the very heart of Lisbon historic center close to Praca Figueira. Labyrinth of narrow streets, stairs, old houses, churches and abandoned mansions. Real local neighborhood with small stores, workshops, cafes and drying clothes hanged out of windows. Very romantic, sometimes tiresome to climb the stairs up and down and definitely unforgettable. A stone throw to Baixa, Chiado or Barrio Alto, whereas the castle is just above your head.
Inside it is a very well thought of and extremely beautifully designed place. It is not just very comfortable suites with big beds, marble bathrooms, well equipped kitchenettes and full size living rooms with huge TVs and lots of satellite channels. It is a design hotel. Their decoration and furnishing deserved another 100 Mb of your camera's memory. Upon arrival, they upgraded us for two nights to a bigger apartment (202 if I remembered properly) with excellent views all over the Baixa and half of Lisbon under your feet. Many floor-to-ceiling narrow windows, some of them opening to small balconies. The remaining three nights we spent in a smaller but very cosy suite (303) looking in the opposite direction: the hill, an old mansion with a small garden and St George castle above. Both apartments were just great. And extremely clean. They do room service daily.
Above that, reception staff was excellent, knowledgeable, very welcoming and helpful. When leaving we were accompanied to the door of a taxi and that nice young lady waited in the street until we left to ensure that everything is OK.
A very nice touch: fresh bread every morning delivered to your door handle in a funny puppet-bag.
WI-FI was free and fast. They have a parking (which was of no use to us, so I do not know if it is extracharge), nice small garden and small outdoor pool.
One advice: they have concrete floors, so take your slippers with you when coming in winter. And do print out a map they send you before arrival, because explaining to a portuguese taxi driver how to climp this hillside would be a challenge.
