“Fantastic hotel - excellent value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2009

My partner did some research on the run while we're on honeymoon and picked this hotel for our lisbon stop. We're very happy indeed! Stayed here for 5 days. The airport bus/shuttle stops directly opposite from the hotel - you can't miss it! 3 mins walk to the metro station and only 1-2 stops to the main tourist area/city centre. Free internet in the lobby, tucked away behind the reception area, there are 2 computers.

Definitely recommend it

What is the main thing you wish to receive from the hotel you have booked in Lisbon? A good night's sleep after a long day of strolling in Lisbon, I would say. Well, I am sorry but that was not possible in this hotel and thus my rating of 2/5. Let me clarify the two huge issues making it impossible to sleep well:

The traffic and the thin windows was the first thing. There is very heavy traffic in the street right in front of the hotel, and that combined with the windows being very thin - the noise was horrible and continued at least up to 1 or 2 am and started early in the morning (I would expect that the rooms located in the other side of the hotel are better in this respect, however). I had earplugs but the noise still came through. They should really change the windows, that would do a world of difference.

The other thing was the bed and the pillows. The WORST bed I have ever experienced. Seriously, that was the ultimate killer of all bad beds - and I can usually sleep well almost anywhere! Hard as a rock (not even kidding!) and no form whatsoever. Also, there was no selection of pillows (please hotel, get some pillow selections in there!) and the pillows were terrible - large and almost as hard as the bed was.

After the first painful night I was very angry, and was horrified at the idea of the next 4 nights to come. I requested the Reception to give me some kind of extra mattress to the bed which they promised to deliver - they were very helpful - but unfortunately the very thin extra cover they brought did not have any affect on the horrible bed. Finally, for the last 4 nights, I had to put the blanket to try to soften the bed a bit. That helped a little but I was still happy to leave the hotel. Not my idea of a good hotel nor good value for money.

Other than the above the hotel was great. Service was excellent, breakfast buffet was great and everthing very clean and new. The location is also very good for access to everywhere, metro station right outside (a short walk to the centre of the city but Lisbon is a nice city to walk in). Also very easy access from the airport, the AirBus goes just by the hotel as well as many other busses that go to the airport.

If it had not been for the beds, pillows and the traffic noise, this hotel would have got 5/5 from me. Unfortunately these things are hugely important factors for a hotel, and therefore I have to say that I would not never in my life return to this hotel, at least not before they change the beds and the windows and get some pillow selections in there... After all, this is supposed to be a 4-star hotel!

After reading previous reviews we opted for the Business package which turned out to be a great deal! We got an upgraded room, fruit plate, water, breakfast, newspaper, free internet, free parking at a much lower cost than if we had paid for all the extras individually. A great deal!

A really nice hotel with friendly staff. The parking is at the back of the hotel so you have to drive round Marquis Pombal square to get to it but the hotel will park your car for you if it has a Portuguese licence plate.

A nice stroll down Avenue Liberdad takes you to the old town in about 10 minutes. We took the hop-on-off bus which also allowed us to take the San Justa elevator and the funiculair. We enjoyed our visit!

Booked a room with a view / aromatic bath / bottle of sparkling wine / breakfast / parking - priced Euro 100/night - was a bargain - huge breakfast (name it/they have it) - distance to city a little to far, but bustransport in front of the hotel - would go again to this hotel

Large and well furnished room, excellent room service, competitive price, central location. I chose a VIP package with free internet included, and I had the pleasure to enjoy flowers in the room an the daily edition of Le Monde, best suited for a french traveler. Impressive overal quality, I'll be back and certainly recommend this hotel.

stayed for 4 nights in July 09, room 1025.
this is a fairly typical "corporate" syle hotel but appears to be very new so everything is spick and span and the service was particularly good.
Paid 83 euros per night, inclusing breakfast - booked via hotel's own website.

Check in - efficient and very friendly. I checked in at approx 2.30 and was offered a room on the first floor. I asked for something higher up and was told i could have that if i was prepared to wait half an hour or so. I did that, having a drink in the bar while i waited. the drink was served with a little tray of salty nibbles which was a nice touch. After half an hour or so I was allocated 1025 which is a twin.

Room - Definitely better than the average chain hotel. Some nice touches such as potted plants in the bathroom and on the desk in the room. Mini bar well stocked with the usuals - bottle of the local SuperBoc beer 3.50 euros. there were no tea/coffee facilities in the room which is really the only minor quibble i would have. ice machines located on every floor. Bathroom was spotless and well equipped with a powerful shower and a large bath. Plenty of bathroom linen including facecloths etc. Satellite TV but limited english speaking channels - except for Sky news, BBC news, CNN etc There were a couple of others, BBC Prime and National Geo but not a great selection of entertainment for the english speaker.
Room service available but usual high prices and the selection didnt look that great. didnt use it.

Internet - a mini keyboard was provided as the TV had that new-ish hotel internet service - but we couldnt get it to work. To access the hotel internet on your own PC cost 5 euros for 1 hour or 10 euros for 24 hours. There was no wi-fi in the room, access was via an ethernet cable/wall socket which (accoring to instructions in the room) could be loaned from reception. Never tried it. Wifi was available in reception according to my iphone but same charging structure applied. Generally speaking i had problems finding a free wifi hotspot in Lisbon, although i wasnt looking too hard!

Breakfast - Buffet style, all self serve including drinks, served until 10am and was excellent. choice of the usual continental meats and cheeses, also a wide selectiuon of fresh fruits. Hot selection also very good - veering towards "full english" with fried eggs, bacon which was very streaky but actually very good, roasted tomatoes, scrambled egg, mushrooms etc. This was actually significantly better than many "full english" breakfasts i have had in hotels in the UK so the Sana is to be congratulated. there was also a wide selection of bakery items, breads, cakes, croissants and danish pastries, jams, honey etc along with a toasting machine for you to do your own toast.
You could definitely fill your boots here and a large late breakfast would mean not having to eat again until late in the day. For this to be included in the price of the room made our rate an absolute bargain.

Bar
on a couple of evenings we had coffee in the bar before going to bed. this was beautifully served, very formally on a silver tray with chargers for the saucers, about 5 different types of sugar, hot frothy milk, cinammon sticks etc. a really nice little treat. "Tea" is served every afternoon at 5pm which we didnt try but if our coffee experience was anything to go by i expect it would be very good. A pianist played "standards" in the bar in the evenings. Unobtrusive and nice.

Spa
in the basement there is a small healthsuite which i did go down to look at but didnt use. it consisted of a jacuzzi, small sauna and steam room and well equipped gym. it was also possible to book a massage and other treatments. it was all very well maintained and spotlessly clean.

Staff
all english speaking, charming and helpful. when we checked out the concierge wasnt at his desk so the receptionist left her position at the desk to go and stand outside the hotel to get us a cab.

All in all its difficult to find fault, so i wont! a great hotel for the price we paid and definitely recommended.

We spent the last two nights of our trip to Portugal at this hotel. Although it was not close to the popular tourist areas, it was a simple 2 or 3 subway stop trip to to get to those areas. We arrrive by car from Sintra and it was incredibly simple to find as it was visible when we exited the tunnel (A5).

Our rate of 85 euros inlcuded breakfast. On the last day, after touring all day, we were exhausted so opted to eat in the hotel restaurant. We were the only patrons at the beginning so it is obviously not used. The food was very good but quite expensive.
