“The best accommodation in the world...probably!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2013

We stayed at the Casa Amora on our honeymoon trip to Portugal. 5 stars don't do justice to how lovely this place is. We have been lucky to stay in all sorts of hotels, guesthouses, b'n'b's around the world, but have never encountered service of this level before. Attentive without being intrusive, you are made to feel very much at home - if your home comes with a butler and an amazing breakfast chef! Thanks to their recommendations, we had delicious meals every night (which in Portugal for a carnivore and vegetarian is quite a feat); we heard fado with locals (a dream come true) and had a beautiful, elegant and comfortable room at the end of each day. And on my 30th birthday they surprised me with a cake. If you're looking for somewhere great to stay, stay here. If you're looking for perfection, you've found it.

Room Tip: By prior arrangement, we stayed in 3 different rooms: The Amadeo Souza Cardoso is spacious and ligh...

we stayed here for five nights in mid July and had a wonderful time. Juan, Luis and Nita looked after our every whim - not that we were too demanding.
Luis welcomed us when we arrived and spent time advising us on things to do and places to go and then Juan took over half way through and helped with good suggestions too.
Meanwhile every morning after a well-rested night in their fabulous beds in quiet and beautifully designed rooms, Nita would ply us with freshly baked banana and chocolate cake, rice pudding, traditional Portuguese cream pies and wouldn't take no for an answer.
The guest house is located a little to the north of central Lisbon, about a 20 min walk from the centre but along interesting streets and also very close to a metro stop.
The beautiful water museum, a haven of calm and coolness in the heat, is right next door, at the end of the 18th century aqueduct, as is a lovely little park and interesting little museum dedicated to a Portuguese artist.
This bed and breakfast which is almost a little boutique hotel is excellent value for money with a friendly and professional but low-key staff.

Room Tip: the top floor back split-level room with terrace is wonderful

Three of us stayed here for 5 nights and were really pleased with our choice!
It won't be the cheapest B&B in town but I'd certainly say very good value. My friends had the suite with a lovely terrace and I had the studio just across a pretty courtyard next to the hotel. I had only one small niggle in that there was a little noise in the late evening (music and talking) from the apartment next to the studio - nothing that a good pair of earplugs couldn't deal with but not ideal. Otherwise, all good! Luis and Juan plus their small team are really very helpful - including some excellent restaurant recommendations. Nita produced fabulous breakfast fare, served al fresco - we all over-ate ridiculously every morning we stayed there. Rooms are quirky and individual - the website is good in that you can see just what you'll be getting. The location is slightly out of the heart of things but it's easy to get down into the centre of town very quickly; we usually walked but you could go by cab or metro really easily.
If you prefer something rather more individual than a luxury chain - and arguably somewhat cheaper - then I'd strongly recommend Casa Amora. It small and gets booked up well in advance - so make your room reservations as soon as you can!

Room Tip: The Studio has a small kitchen should you want to do some home cooking though beware some noise poll...

Risking to repeat what previous reviewers already wrote, we must emphasize once again that Casa Amora is much more than a hotel, it is a first-hand experience of Lisbon, its great and hospitable people, lovely architecture and design, and a tasteful domestic food!
Casa Amora is a beautifully renovated and tastefully decorated house in the romantic surrounding of Jardim das Amoreiras.
During our 10-day holiday which was more than just a city break, we've really made good friends with Luis, Juan and Nita, so at the end of our stay we really felt like leaving home. The Casa Amora team really makes you feel that you're staying with people for whom hospitability is not just a regular job. From the first moment Luis and Juan made us feel secure and comfortable not only in CA, but also in the city, having given us all necessary information as well as access to their 24/7 help and assistance regarding all matters. Nita, on the other hand, made our every morning start pleasantly, not only with her excellent domestic pies and cakes, but also with her great smile and positive energy. We already miss her breakfast :-)....
We stayed in the basic room named after Portugal's great poet Fernardo Pessoa and symbolically, our stay was also poetic. Hidden from the noise and warmth, located in the basement, this room offers you great posssibility to spend time in a naturally climatized room and to have a good night sleep, away from the noise of the city. Yes, it is not big and yes - its bathroom is actually positioned in one corner of the room, but everything is "fitting like a glove". It is an excellent choice for all close partners. Also important to mention that bed, pillows and linning are really comfortable and impecably clean, as well as the towels.
The location is also very good if you enjoy a 20-minute walk to the historic centre, but in case you don't, there are also all means of public transportation conveniently located just 5 minutes from Casa Amora.
We strongly recommend Casa Amora to couples of all ages and groups of friends. We certainly look forward to coming back one day...

Beyond the boutique hotel - Casa Amora offers a pied a terre for travelers who want to see Lisbon beyond the view of a chain hotel. The house and rooms are artfully decorated yet still feel very homey. The patio is lovely for breakfast or a glass of wine at dusk. Manager Juan is extraordinary and clearly loves his job!

Casa Amora is conveniently located minutes from the metro, and the manager is available to assist with transportation, dinner reservations and sightseeing recommendations. A very, very pleasant place to stay in Lisbon!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Casa Amora is a typical building of Lisbon’s early twentieth century petite bourgeoisie, renovated in 2012, with a small outdoor patio for rest or meals and 5 bedrooms (all with bathroom). Each room pays homage to one of the great figures of Portuguese art (painting, music, literature, film) of the last century. The process of renewal and adaptation carefully kept all the decorative elements existing in the rooms (plaster) and exterior (tiles, balcony), introducing a color palette that contributes to a peaceful and relaxing environment. Casa Amora is located in one of the nicest and most central districts of Lisbon, Praça das Amoreiras. In this neighborhood, where the 18th century Aqueduct (that survived the great Lisbon earthquake of 1755) reaches and end, Casa Amora is neighbor to Water Museum (Museu da Mae de Agua) and the Vieira da Silva / Arpad Szenes museum. Residents and visitors have easy and direct access to the neighborhoods of antique shops (Rua de Sao Bento and Rua da Escola Politecnica), historic districts (Bairro Alto and Chiado), Avenida da Liberdade and its fashion shops as well as the shopping center Amoreiras, all at walking distance. ... more   less
