“Super clean and central”
Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

This is my third stay in Lisbon but first time at Valentina. What's great about this b&b is first off Sandra, as mentioned in previous reviews. I had an issue with the key late at night and she totally came to the rescue with a smile. It added so much to the whole experience. The place is super clean, wifi works well throughout the building, and some rooms even have blackout blinds. It is a short walk to the bairro alto. We found street parking around the corner. The area is eclectic, like Lisbon- a huge parliament building is on the next street. Had a great stay and would recommend it to others.

What makes a difference staying at a place ultimately is the people who are there to welcome you and go out of their way for you. With regards to this, I have never met anyone better than Sandra. I honestly did not feel like I was staying as a paying guest, instead, I felt like I was staying at a friend's house. She really is incredibly accomodating and really goes out of her way for you. Thank you Sandra!! You are simply the best! Tony from South Africa

+ The room is clean. There is enough space. Tram 28 is right across the street. Sandra is a very nice lady who helps you en gives you nice tips.

- There is not enough ventilation in the bathroom, it gives a smell in the room.
The cleaninglady snooped every day trough our luggage. We didn't missed a thing, but you better can't have valuables in your room or at least have a lock on your luggage.

We stayed here during Champions League football weekend. The hotel is really close to the city center. Sandra let us in the building at 1:00 am and was super friendly. The room was perfect for the 3 of us. It was really clean and the bathroom was super clean so we where surprised that we got all this for this amount of money. During our stay she helped us with tips where to eat and where not too. We would recommend this hotel to everyone since the host Sandra and her crew are the best!

Room Tip: If you travel with 3 people book room 19. It was perfect with a private bathroom.

It's a very small guest house on the first floor of an old apartment building in central Lisbon, It looks a bit simple and old, and the fact that there was no wall between the bathroom and the bedroom was a bit of a shocker when we came in. But once your passed that, you will find that the rooms and the rest of the hotel are clean, the beds are comfortable, there is a larger, shared bathroom and it's on a central location.

The street where the hotel is located is a bit of a dump, but surprisingly the Portuguese parliament, housed in a magnificent palace, is literally around the corner! Also it's only a short walk from Bairro Alto (the area with the most nightlife) and a 20 minute walk from the largest shopping district "Chiado"!

If you value a certain level of luxury and style, I would not recommend this hotel, but if you're just backpacking, or staying for a few days and just want a cheap and central place to stay: Then you should definitely give this hotel a try!

Room Tip: pick one in the back of the hotel, so you don't have that much problems with street noise.

We stayed in this hotel few times in June 2013. Girl in the reception was extremely nice and helpful and gave us the best tips of Lisbon. Location of the hotel was great, just next to Bairro Alto and walking distance to the centre. Rooms which have windows to the Calcada da Estrela are a bit noisy because of the trams. Big supermarket just around the corner. Free wifi :)

I stayed at the Residencial Valentina for four nights in June 2013, paying a total of 140 Euros. Payment by credit or debit card is not possible, so I ended up paying cash, which was not an issue for me.

The hotel is located on the popular No 28 tram route, within a stone's throw of the Palacio da Assembleia, where Portugal's parliament meets. It is also easy to get by 'bus to the Cais do Sodre (for trains to Estoril and Cascais) and to Belem (for the Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery and Carriages Museum). There are also cafes, restaurants and small supermarkets nearby, as well as a post office right next door. It looks a little way out of the centre on a map, but it really isn't, as the public transport connections are so good. The area struck me as being quite safe, even at night.

My room was light and spacious and decently, though simply, furnished, with a king-sized bed, dressing table, wardrobe and bedside table. I liked the wooden floor. There was satellite TV (with a good range of English language channels) and the wi-fi Internet connection was efficient. The sound-proofing was adequate, although I could hear the noise of the trams in the street (even though my room overlooked a side alley). I did not need to use the air-conditioning, so cannot comment on its effectiveness or otherwise. I found the bed comfortable and slept very well for the duration of my stay. The standard of cleaning (which was done every day) was very good. There was no en suite bathroom, but there was one just along the corridor, in which everything worked OK, including the shower. I suppose that it the hotel was full, you might have to wait your turn, which might prove irksome.

What I particularly liked about the hotel was the warmth, friendliness and helpfulness of the people running it - Sandra and her parents. Full marks for customer care!

I would definitely stay at the Valentina again and also recommend it to others travelling on a budget. I might, however, opt next time for a room with an en suite bathroom.
