We went for a traditional Fado experience, we had 3 vegetarians in the group and were told in advance that this would be fine... it was if you wanted to all eat the same, which was rice and vegetables!

The waiter brought 4 fish cakes to the table which we were surprised about given that our hotel had rang ahead and told them we had 3 vegetarians, we were even more surprised when these appeared on our bill without even being ordered!

These had been passed off as being complementary!

So as another reviewer has said I would not recommend this place unless you love fado and being ripped off!!

It was all about the money and not the service or experience.. my rating relates totally to the singing.....

Thank MJHP

Went to this famous Fado restaurant for a night out. The evening started with dinner. We chose the set menu for €55. The food was plentiful and very filling. Then there followed a few Fado singers accompanied by 2 men on the traditional guitars. It was a fun traditional night out. The singers were very professional, friendly and appreciative of the appreciation of the audience in the restaurant.

This is visited by lots of tourists as hotels recommend it, which as another reviewer mentioned does mean some tables were talking through the performance, though they did get shushed by the locals. Several local families were celebrating birthdays and joining in occasionally sotto Voce with the singers which with the candlelight, instruments and impassioned singing, made for a really lovely atmosphere.
The service was efficient and our food was excellent, a juicy steak cooked rare (once partner had convinced the waiter that not all Brits like their steak medium!) and a delicious very fresh sole. Starters and puds were fine. Prices on the high side, but you are paying for the Fado experience, so that's expected.
Why not an "excellent" grade then? Well, a previous reviewer mentions asking for tap water and being told there was none available. This must be because it had all gone into the drink! Partner's rum, jug of Sangria, cherry brandies, all laced with H2O. A bit of a cheat. On plus side, we flew home the next morning with perfectly clear heads!

We are visiting Lisbon for the first time and someone recommended us this place as the Best Fado. We have never heard Fado before but we really liked the music and singers. The restaurants is something else. It felt like the biggest tourists trap. The prices for everything was tripled , when I asked for tap water i was told they don’t have it it, I said you don’t have running water in the whole building and smiling waiter told me no, he basically forced us to getting bottled water. It is customary in Portugal to bring bread and some other appetizers like olives and hummus and it is not free like in most other countries, but if you send it back they do not charge you for that, which we did. I ordered grilled octopus that came as a big portion of an grossly over salted food which I could force myself to swallow and my husband ordered lamb chops that looked like some already ate them and were extremely dry. The only edible part of the meal was ice cream which is not cooked on premises. In the end when we got the bill, the appetizers that we refused where still included and we felt that we were kept for stupid foreigners. The waiter apologized and took the charge off. Our meal was very expansive and we left hungry and unhappy. I do not recommend this place even if they have the Best fado.
