“Good Value Charming Old-Style Lisbon Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2013

We had a very good stay at this recently refurbished Hotel. Room was large, clean and comfortable with a very good en suite bathroom. We only had breakfast on our last morning but it was a very good standard. Evening meals are not available but staff were happy to recommend and book local restaurants for us. Staff were very helpful and enjoyed chatting in English.

Good location slightly out of the centre of Lisbon so reasonably quiet but with good transport right outside the hotel and just five minutes from the central squares and close to the stops for the open top bus tours that are very good value in Lisbon. The Yellow Bus in particular includes free transport to the Airport on the Aero Bus shuttle, the trams and Funiculars. We also used the taxi's which were very reasonable.

We stayed here for two nights recently and did not have a good experience.

1. The woman at the reception when I checked in was not friendly. I came a couple hours early knowing I may not be able to check in early but she didn't even check to see if a room was ready yet. She just told me to come back at 2. Fine. There was a tremendous thunderstorm outside and one would think that she could have at least pointed out the things in the hotel I could use - internet room, bar, etc. But no. I was to come back at 2.

2. The lighting in TERRIBLE. We are young and have decent eyesight and we couldn't see our door to the room. I had to use the light on my phone for us to see where the room key goes. Once you are in the room, it looks like you are in a horror movie - especially the bathroom. It was creepy.

3. Our room wasn't that clean. It was ok but not great.

4. The bed was terrible. At first it felt comfortable but if your spouse turns over, it feels like you are going to bounce right out of bed. So, didn't get much sleep.

5. I heard every time my neighbor blew her nose, you can hear everyone walking in the halls talking, etc. It's noisy. If you still want to stay there, bring ear plugs.

6. The breakfast room is total chaos. I've never seen one like it. You were lucky if you got to eat your yogurt with a fork because there weren't enough spoons. Seriously - it's like everyone in Lisbon was there eating.

7. They may or may not have a dress code. When you check in to your room, the tv says "Don't do it" and has pictures of shorts and tank tops crossed out. It's Lisbon - it's warm. Who doesn't wear shorts there? We wore shorts and felt really uncomfortable having everyone look at us.

I'd definitely look elsewhere and I wouldn't stay there again. There have to be better options in Lisbon.

Evidencia Astoria took me from Hello! Literally! The Staff is nice, attentive and very friendly. Though me and my friends arrived before check-in time we did not wait a minute and were accommodated right away!
The rooms were simple but nice-decorated, spacious (the one my sister had was enormous!!!) with big bathrooms, comfortable beds and sofas! Yes! We had sofas in both standard rooms!

Then, the location. It is wonderful! Just two steps away from the Marquise Pombal square, central Avenida de Libertad and Eduardo VII Park! Perfect surroundings!

The only upset is the breakfast. Seriously, sometimes there was not even a single clean cup or plate and people waited and waited ending up filling glasses they could find with hot coffe... If we were a bit late to be first on the breakfast we ought to be part of crowded mess... Well the food was actually not bad, but same every morning. What surprised me a lot was lack of fresh fruits... IN PORTUGAL! That was odd...

In general, I would say the hotel can realy be highly recommended! There are definetely more positive sides in staying there.

Room Tip: Do not take breakfasts - it may ruin all impression

We went to Lisbon for my wife's 70th birthday and we wanted our stay to be special and it was. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The hotel has had a major upgrade and has a modern style. The rooms are comfortable, the bed comfortable. I asked for an upper floor room on the street side to see the action. It was cool, we could watch the street scene but we could shut out the noise with the double-pane window. Light could be shut out with two doors that closed over the window so it made sleeping easier. The bathroom was very modern with a large shower.

Breakfast was a full breakfast, it was very good with lots of variety. Eggs, bacon or sausage, fruit, ham, cheeses, etc. You could fuel up for your morning jaunt.

The small bar is intimate and a good place to meet folks. We met people from Finland, Australia, & Holland. It's a relaxing place at the end of the day.

The location is perfect. It is virtually around the corner from the largest park in Lisbon,King Edward the VII park. The hotel is at the north end of the Avenida Da Liberdade a major through-
affair north-south and at the north end of the central business district. It is close to everything.

I can't say enough about how great the staff were. Since we were there for 8 days we got to interact with all of them. To a person, they were attentive, friendly, humorous, courteous and eager to help and to make sure our stay was as pleasant as possible. We hated to say goodbye to them. It was saying goodbye to friends.

This is one of the coolest hotels we've ever stayed at. It was just perfect for us.

Room Tip: I was glad I asked for a room on the street side. A lot more to look at. Noise was not a problem.

I have visited Lisbon already for the third time and this hotel stands out from all those i have stayed at. The location is very good, just a few meters from the Avenida da Liberdade/Marquis de Pombal Square and the metro station, bus station is also in from of the hotel. Just a stone's throw from the shopping area/bars and restaurants. This is a charming place with very good design, clean and spacious rooms. We stayed in a triple room and were impressed by the room size. The rooms are modern and well designed, everything is new. The only issue we had was that our room face a courtyard, where the ventilation system was installed, thus we were disturbed by the noise coming from ventilation and had to close the window. The staff is very friendly and speaks fluent English (and most probably other languages as well). Excellent value for money. Will definitely stay there on my next trip.

very clean and quiet rooms. Polite and nice staff specially at the reception, they spoke good English. It was easy to find the hotel from the airport bus. The neighborhood was close to the city center walking, also very close to metro.
The breakfast was a little bit busy which might be because of the summer holidays.

When I arrived the bedroom that bed captivated me. Looked like a huge White fluffy cloud, and it was. I slept like a child on their bed. Very clean, service is great. Location couldnt be better and their breakfast offers great variety. A good place for a little staying. Very nice, confortable and cozy.
