If you like Fado, can't avoid visiting the Diva home... you are always waiting that she enters from the front door!

Take a walk down to this casa museu and learn about the legendary singer and her life, Amalia ROdrigues , lovingly known as Amaila. One of the tour guides is actually a woman who toured with AMalia which really made it feel very familiar and familial. Enjoyed the tour and learned a lot about the singer and the style of fado. Dont leave Lisbon without hearing fado !!!

Well this was a wonderful visit and one which we felt privileged to have undertaken. We visited on a December afternoon and we the only visitors. We paid our money and were shown up through a side door by a most interesting lady who had spent much of her life as Amalia's personal assistant. She told us a lot about her life and the house. Amalia, the"Queen of Fado" died in the house at the age of 79 and left it to the state as a Museum. Everthing has been left just as it was and her beautiful voice echoes around the house as the lady told us stories of her life. It was also wonderful to see all her beautiful dresses and costume jewellery. It was a wonderful vist and I really felt as though I had been entertained by the lady herself. Don't miss it..it's halfway down Rua Sao Bento. Incidentallly there are many interesting antique shops in this road if you carry on walking up, but the pavements are narrow and the traffic unrelenting, so take care as you walk!
