“Good standard, but not 4 stars. Big minus for no WiFi.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 January 2011

I stayed here in business for four nights. I can not stay that I didn't have a nice stay, but I would expected more from a 4 star hotel and for the price that you pay.

Unfortunately the hotel does not have WiFi so you need to give a deposit at the reception in order to borrow a LAN cable. I had some difficulties to get my Internet connection to work, and it took one and a half day for them to come and help me solve it. But when the IT guys eventually came, the solved it in 20 minutes. But this makes you wonder if it would be easier to just install WiFI...?

The rooms are modern, clean and nice - no complains there. In some of the other reviews I noticed that people complained about noise, especially from the nearby train station, but I did not notice anything like that.

The breakfast buffé is served in a very unpersonal dining room, that I think should be updated and could be more "cosy". It has many large tables for 8 to 10 people - how often are you that many eating breakfast together...?

Since there are many international guests in the hotel, I would have appreciated if the hotel restaurant would have been open all day, and not closed in the afternoon (it opened 19.30 in the evening like restaurants in general do in Lisbon). Then they would acknowledge that some of us have other meatimes than the Portugese.

The hotel is located in an area called "Oriente", close to the fair area FIL and not far from the shopping centre Vasco da Gama. It is a modern and business-like area, so if you are looking for a more "genuine" side of Lisbon, you should go for another hotel more close to the city centre. It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the nearest metro station, and from there you reach the city centre within 15 minutes.

VIP Executive Arts is a modern hotel in a neighborhood that was built for the 1998 World's Fair. I'd only stay here if you are in Lisbon for work that involves the Parque dos Nacoes convention center across the street. It's quite a distance from Lisbon's historic center, though there is a metro station a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The neighborhood has some cool modern buildings, plenty of restaurants, a pleasant river-front park, and is a 15-minute taxi ride from the airport, but old Lisbon has such charm and faded beauty that it would be shame not to stay in the midst of it if you are there for vacation. As for the hotel itself, it's very modern with some funky twists (such as a concrete support beam that went diagonally across a wall in my room). My room and bathroom were well designed, and the bed comfortable. Oddly, for such a design hotel, the tv was an old model and not a flat screen. The room did have my pet peeve of modern hotels: you couldn't open the window. But that might be just as well since trains run along the back of the building. The breakfast buffet was pretty standard for a big hotel of this sort: cooked eggs, fruits, cereals, and pastries (which the Portuguese do very well). Wi-Fi is a bit pricey (from 3 euros an hour to 24 euros for the day). There's no gym or pool, which is a shame for a business hotel. I had very little contact with the staff but they seemed friendly and multilingual. All in all, a good choice if you have work in the neighborhood, but a bad choice to enjoy Lisbon, which is a lovely city.

I had no complaints about the noise. The room was perfectly quiet and the view from the 9th floor to the river was absolutely gorgeous, especially by the morning. However, half of the hotel is facing the train station and I have stayed in a hotel near that vip arts where we could hear the trains arriving and leaving. Ask specifically for one facing the main road and as high as possible.

The room was a bit small but had a good bathroom and a nice wardrobe. TV was one of the olde ones, not plasma or lcd or led...didn´t get it.

Another thing bad, just one computer with free internet available... had to wait in queue.

Overall, a good stay with very nice location. Shopping mall, bars, restaurants, metro and wonderful river just a few steps away.

I travel a lot to lisbon for work, and the hotel i stay normally was full. I decided to stay at vip arts due to its location nearby my headquarters. Unfortunately the rooms were too noise since there is a train station on the back of the hotel and trains are passing in all night! it seems i slept at a train station! Worst than that i forgot my dental kit and they didn't have available at hotel!

I was so excited when I arrived at the hotel, as it looked so grand. We booked a non-smoking room. The first room we were given, smelt badly of smoke but even worse the dirty ashtray with 5 cigarette butts were still on the table! The second room still smelt of smoke & the shaving mirror was dirty & old tissue behind the waste bin was horrible but after travelling along time, we just stayed in that room as the view was so amazing! House Keeping let this otherwise great hotel down.

The location is in the "Parque das Nações" close to the "Orient Gare" and the Vasco da Gama Shopping-center. Just five minutes away from the Metrostation, where it will be easy to get to Lisbons downtown.
The Hotel has a modern look, but they need to have more care with the rooms.

You will have better and cheaper breakfast outside. So book the room without breakfast.
The parkingfacilities are ok and inexensive - 6 euro for 24 hours.

For a business trip or for a short stay (one or two nights) this hotel is good enough.
For business trip or a weekend i would go there again.

The good:
The hotel is pretty well placed in the newer and cleaner part of Lisbon, close enough to the airport (direct bus, about 10 minutes). A variety of restaurants and tourist attractions in proximity. Far from the city center, but easy to get there by metro. Train station very close, easy to get to interesting places nearby.
The hotel was clean in general, with some exceptions (see below). Rooms a bit small for a 4 star hotel, but comfortable.

The bad:
The staff is very slow. Checking in and out takes a long time, not sure which part of the process they have difficulties with.
Their English (or other foreign language, like French, Spanish, anything) could be better.
The internet access is not included in the room price and is very expensive. Again, getting internet access in your room is some kind of complicated process that takes them a long time.
Sometimes the towels are old and look dirty, there were days I didn't dare to use them.
No coffee maker in the room.
Some food items at breakfast (pancakes, deserts) were at least a couple of days old. Very poor quality tea.

The worst:
The waiter tried to trick us at dinner by overcharging the bill with plenty of stuff we didn't order. The bill was 50% higher than it should have been, with a strange list of items on it that nobody ate. He pretended not to understand our English or our French when we complained. We had to go to the reception to clear the problem out. Not sure he still works there, but anyway be careful at the restaurant and bar.
