We spent 2 nights here en route to Madeira. Reception was friendly and efficient, and took instantly volunteered to deal Ground Force in the matter of a missing case, which turned up early next morning. A razor, shaving cream, toothbrush and toothpaste were supplied gratis to tide us over until the case arrived. The hotel was very quiet while we stayed there. We had a room at the top of the building, with only a small dormer style window. However it was a very comfortable room with TV, DVD, safe, etc. The bathroom was very elegant and even had a sound relay and phone! On the roof there is a cafe with a wonderful view over the the city to the Tagus River. The Bairro Alto district is fascinating with steep hills, funicular railways, and the Santa Justa elevator is a must! There are The hotel's restaurant is small; the food there was very good, though at the inevitable 5 star prices. We found a wonderful meal about 2 miutes walk away at Taberna dos Arcos. The much written about Tram No.28 can be picked up more or less outside the hotel; its well worth a ride!
