I'd recommend you to stay at this hotel just to experience Luis. He is the most amazing host you will ever encounter in your life. A pure rare gem who loves people, loves his country and will captivate your heart and soul.

The location of Zuzabed is perfect! it's right in the heart of it all. The journey to get there is an adventure as you need to walk down a series of stairs through bustling cafe's & restaurants. Don't be disgruntled by the entrance to Zuzabed - it's a dark alleyway that leads up a series of very steep stairs and into Luis's cozy kingdom. We were all 'wowed'!

I'd recommend staying in the top rooms - the castle room is an incredibly magical room with a view & terrace. The room we stayed in was next to the lounge area and was extremely noisy with the outside restaurants and nightlife. Make sure you bring good earplugs!

The breakfast is divine! It's a feast for kings. You also meet other travelers and Luis weaves his magic by bringing everybody's interests together sharing any tip you need for your travels.

I won't share much more so you can be surprised by all the little things Luis has installed for you.

TIPS: You don't need a car if you're just exploring Lisbon. Catch a cab to the hotel from the airport (cabs' are cheap in Lisbon). Parking is VERY expensive so if you need to hire a car - hire it from Lisbon after you've finished exploring the city.

We stayed in Zuzabed last year on the recommendation of friends, and absolutely LOVED it. The place is lovely, really well located (if you don't mind the stairs) and as everyone who stays there agrees Luis is an incredible host.

That's not what this review is about though, because Luis has just out-done himself! Our friends (the same ones who recommended Zuzabed to us) are on their Honeymoon and went back to Lisbon for a few days and stayed in Zuzabed (for the 3rd time!). We contacted Luis and he organized for us to pay for their stay by Paypal, and left a chilled bottle of Cava in their room for us! He even asked us to send a scanned note that he'd leave by the bed.

The man is an absolute legend. If you are looking for a nice place to stay for a few days in Lisbon you'd be nuts not to stay here if you can.

Our host Luis is a prince of a man. From the initial email correspondence months before our arrival to saying goodbye with a hug, our experience of Zuzabed was superb. Be warned, though, the address is literally a cobblestoned staircase, for which Lisbon is famous. If you have a lot of heavy luggage be prepared to struggle. If you have a car (as we did), be prepared to drive through mad, winding, narrow streets of the old city looking for a parking garage. It is all worth it to stay with Luis in what used to be his home, a two-floor apartment above a restaurant in romantic Chiado..

The website gives you accurate information and a good sense of the design sensibility of the owner. We stayed in the "red room," which is off the living/dining room on the second floor. So in the morning you will hear the other guests as they gather for breakfast, but the upside is that in the evening you've pretty much got the common living area to yourself. Not officially, of course.

The place is spotlessly clean (thank you Fatima) and the breakfasts are generous and scrumptious. There is an enticing assortment of breads, cheeses, cold cuts, meats, fruits, yogurt, cereals and pastries. You can have eggs prepared as you like. Luis also bakes delicious cakes for his guests. He clearly loves running a B & B.

This princely host goes out of his way to make sure your stay in his beloved city will be enjoyable. He is an affable fellow who will talk as much (or as little) as you like. We got sightseeing, restaurant and shopping tips, as you would expect from any great hotel or B & B but we got so much more than that--conversations on cultural, historical, cultural, geographic, and personal topics. He also introduced us to Offley white port, for which we are eternally in his debt.

Lisbon is a remarkable city, and a stay at Zuzabed will quickly introduce you to why it's so fabulous.

Louis,
Words can not express our gratitude for what my wife and I feel was the most amazing vacation experience we have ever had. We saw some of the most beautiful sights we have ever seen. Rarely do you encounter a host that makes you feel as wlcome as you made us feel. Your enthusiasm is contagious and your guest reap the benifits. We had a home in Lisbon and your guest became our friends because of you! Louis with all that is good about Lisbon, it just would not have been the same with you. We looked forward to spending our evenings with you and the other guests and that is the greatest compliment we can give you. Again, Thank you and don't forget it would be our pleasure to show you Tampa Bay....

Difficult to add anything new to all the fantastic reviews but I will try.
Perfect location in Lisbon and a lovely B&B with comfortable rooms and excellent breakfast.
Once again though I have to agree that it is Luis that makes this place a cut above the rest. We have never known a host so passionate about making sure his guests enjoy their holiday. His enthusiasm is infectious and results in a fantastic atmosphere where we met some lovely other guests over breakfast and early evening drinks with Luis.
We stayed during the latest ash crisis and on the day we were due to leave our flight was cancelled. Sadly Zuzabed was full but Luis helped us find an alternative hotel and arrange new flights on his computer. He told us if we needed anything to get in touch and when our next flight was also cancelled we contacted him to use the computer again. He was more than happy to help and let us know he soon had a free room again so we happily moved back to Zuzabed.
Luis left the keys for us to pick up the day before and he collected our luggage from our hotel so we could go out and enjoy our day. Fantastic service!!!
With all the flight problems it could have made the holiday a nightmare but Luis made sure it was perfect in every way and although we were glad to finally get home we were very sad to leave Zuzabed.
Thanks again Luis for everything, we were like two bad pennies that keep turning up!!!
If you plan to visit Lisbon you have to stay here, it will make your visit perfect.

After reading the reviews for Zuzabed I really thought it would be impossible for anyone to be so close to perfection but Zuzabed is in a great location and Luis is the perfect host! He helped us with our travel plans, recommended restaurants, gave us a cell phone to use, was always around for breakfast--he even baked a special coffee cake for us one morning! Most importantly, Luis made us feel welcomed and cared for--we feel we have a friend in Lisboa!

If you want personal care that exceeds you expectations every day and right in the heart of Lisbon then Zuzabed is for you. It might be good for Luis's competitors that his customer service secrets are being published by fellow reviewers, but I can assure you Luis is so innovative in his customer service that he will always be steps ahead.
I may have left a point off the rooms score, but, honestly, that the rooms are small is due to the fact that they are in an antique downtown building. They are beautifully decorated and really "size doesn't count" anyway does it. Congratulations Luis, see you again.
