We loved staying at this B&B in a beautiful old building restored with great care and attention to detail to preserve its original character. It is very tastefully decorated, homey, comfortable and quiet. Our room was small and cozy, with nice views out to the beautiful buildings and quiet cobblestone streets of the neighborhood. The location can't be beat as it is adjacent to the city wall half-way between the main entrance and the Castelo, although the town is so small that everything is within easy walking distance. We had no trouble finding street parking adjacent to the B&B on a Saturday evening in May. As other reviewers have noted, the people that own and operate the place speak very little English but are extremely kind and welcoming. Obidos is small but beautiful - the main street through town can get busy with tour groups during the day, but if you stay the night, the town is quiet and you have the place to yourself. I highly recommend Casa do Fontanario as an excellent value - a quality bed and breakfast with great personality and character.

With a personal greeting from our hostess, a bottle of wine in our room and complimentary ginja, we could only feel extremely welcome when we arrived at the Casa. Situated just outside the castle walls, we were well placed to do our exploring - and, of course, the Casa itself is a beautifully kept 14th century house. We had a comfortable night's sleep, and at breakfast the next morning (in the Portuguese style with bread, ham, cheese, fresh fruit, and excellent coffee) and we were well attended by a staff member who spoke little English but was very patient with our attempts at Portuguese.

Only two negatives to note - one, that our bathroom had a tendency to flood (which did no damage but did give us rather a shock) and secondly, that we had some difficulty parking on the old, narrow streets. Neither of these really impacted our stay, however, and we left with an even better impression of the Casa do Fontanario than when we arrived.

What a lovely place to stay! A very warm welcome from the owners awaited us with an introduction to the history of the casa and even a glass of the local tipple as we relaxed in the room. The room was spotlessly clean and a good size for the two of us. I particularly liked the local blankets that they'd chosen for the room - they complimented the decoration wonderfully. This is really well located for entering the walled town, and just far away from the touristy area as well. Breakfast was good and sufficient, lovely coffee, plenty of fruit and as much ham and cheese as we could manage. Service was good at breakfast, too. I would definitely stay here again.

We travelled around Portugal and stayed here last August so I am a bit late with the review. I think Obidos was my favourite place, make sure you don't miss it and that you stay there for one night at least. It is strategic location, you can take trips to different beaches from there as well as enjoy this small medieval town. We stayed three nights in this casa. We spent some time on deciding which place to book in Obidos and I am glad we chose this one. The owners, elderly couple, greeted us warmly with a shot of Ginja (Obidos liquer) and showed us around. We loved the house straight away, it is old and traditional, very beautiful. Our room was cosy with a private bathroom. They don't really speak English but we managed to understand each other. This is the part I actually really liked. It was lovely to see older people with a little English doing such a fab job. They have a help, also elderly lady from next village who is doing cleaning, breakfast and bringing fresh bread each morning. She was very nice and so funny, we had a good laugh chatting with her. Service was excellent. There is parking around the house, we always found the spot. The location is outside one of the gates of Obido walls, very convenient.

In every room you feel the love, the owners have for there Hotel.- Very clean, and you feel the history of the house in every Corner.
The breackfast is very fresh and more than enough. I look back to the time i could spend there, and hope to go back soon.

Room Tip: Ich fand alles gut. Hatte ein Doppelzimmer. Man Denke immer daran das in Portugal die Betten meistens 140 cm breit sind! `( meistens), auch hier.
