“Comfy and convenient”

Great location, easy to find, and comfortable hotel. We really enjoyed the style of the hotel and the tall windows opening to a view of the town walls.
One of the lovely things about this hotel is the pool with a view of the castle; unfortunately, it was a bit too cool while we were in Obidos.

Breakfast was an excellent buffet with terrific choices, especially some sweet cakes, and, as we were traveling with two toddlers, we really appreciated the fact that the tables weren't crammed together. We had lots of space. However, it is true that there were flies about.
Be warned: the hotel really doesn't have much food service other than breakfast. We tried to eat in one evening (we stayed two) but wish we hadn't. I think the food was just microwaved, but the wine was good :)

A comfortable stop. We stayed two nights and found Obidos lovely in the evening (walking back from the pousada after a delicious meal), enjoyed daytime shopping, and day tripped.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the town walls.

The hotel is, literally, steps from the gate to the walled city and a quaint tavern. The hotel is very nicely decorated in the crusader theme - right down to the massive room keys on a rope! Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was quite yummy. Staff were very friendly.

It can be a little tricky to find (especially at night) so get good directions. Parking can also be a little tricky- you just have to be creative!

The only disappointment in our stay was that we arrived at 1:00 in the morning due to flight delays. We did not have the opportunity to enjoy the hotel and pool as much as we would have liked.

I would recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: We had great rooms over looking a court yard and very near the pool. They were nice.

After being in Portugal for a conference and some other touring, I decided to surprise my wife with an especially romantic last night away. The Hotel Real d'Obidos had a great romantic package including a fantastic room overlooking the castle and a small, quaint chapel. In the room were sparkling wine, a basket of fruit and rose petals on the draped canopy bed. The greetign and service were terrific and there was a convenient parking garage at no additional charge. The package also included dinner at the Pousada in the castle. Breakfast was also included and while not fancy, was very tasty. We also had an opportunity to enjoy the pool and the very nice patio watching the turtles! The town itself is very quaint and interesting, one night or maybe two would be plenty to see it all. If touring Portugal again in the future I wouldn;t hesitate to return!

This is the hotel for an authentic mediaeval experience: with a fly-ridden breakfast buffet, surly and unhelpful staff and noxious odours from the slimy pool. I had actually booked the so called romantic package which included a welcome bottle of sparkling wine. This did not turn up until a number of requests had been made. Then followed a dinner at the Pousada Restaurant, which was equally unpleasant.
I spent most of my time reading the Tripadvisor award displayed at the front desk as the staff were either absent or engaging in their personal conversations.
As mentioned, I have nightmare memories of the flies climbing out of the various dishses making up the breakfast buffet.

We spent one romantic (package) night at the well-rated hotel, arguably the best in Obidos from what we could tell. As with everywhere we went in Portugal, the staff were kind and attentive, models of hospitality. We had a charming large corner room with many casement windows, a comfortable canopy bed (strewn with red silk petals, I might add), a large and comfortable bathroom, and a welcome basket of fruit and champagne. I mean, honestly, what more could one want? Romeo and I were happy with it all. The old city is steps away, literally, and so do not let the location throw you off. It's quite perfect. Breakfast is modest but sufficient. Their bar is limited, and so don't order anything fancy. the whole medieval thing is almost over the top, but, really, it's part of what Obidos is all about and this is no Disneyland version of tourism. Just accept it and enjoy what the hillside streets have to offer.

We stay at the hotel one night. It is a wonderfool hotel, roman stile, the rooms and facilities are amazing. The stuff is excellent and dress like in the past, to give you and history atmoshfire. It has a big swimming pool if you have good weather. Also have parking or parking nearby if you do not have space left in the private garage .

Suits of armour, chain mail, wooden floors and doors and huge room keys! Our room was rather romantic with a mini balcony which opened onto the peaceful little garden and buildings below. [Yes, I did have a Portuguese "what light through yonder window breaks" moment when I first flung open the doors :) ]

Romeo thought the room smelled musty - especially the heavy curtains. I think he was right but it didn't bother me. I doubt they had vacuums in the middle ages - it all adds to the ambience!

Watch the taps on the bath/shower as another reviewer warned. They work in opposite ways. The water is scalding hot.

Breakfast is included and fantastic. Buffet with everything you could hope for. Even some bubbly (which I was too chicken to open)!

Finally a thank you. The staff set up such a cute little crib for our baby with lovely sheets and a little pillow. Even a little chocolate (which I ate :) That was very kind and very much appreciated.

No hesitation in recommending this hotel. Would love to stay here again.
