“Quiet relaxed charm”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

Stayed 1 night during holidays, it's the only place to stay in setubal/palmela area because of the historic building, outstanding surroundings and views, quiet relaxed charm of the experience. The breakfast is just great with fresh fruit and bakery. Will stay again

Room Tip: If in the hotel and need to go to Setubal take the land road on the left of the city walls, the scen...

Our party had the whole pousada booked for a wedding. The food was excellent and the service was superior. Large, clean rooms in what was once a convent. Stunning setting with beautiful views. Take a stroll up to the castle or down to the village.

A stay at the Pousada de Palmela is surely a trip into the past. Highly recommended. The views are just magnificent.
The only downside was that Wifi was only available in the public areas and not in the room.

Before ending our week long trip from Lisbon to the Algarve back up to Lisbon we decided to stay a night in the Palmela Pousada - it was fantastic. First off staying in a pousada was one of the most unique hotel/night experiences that we had. The service was amazing and we felt like we were the only two in a historic castle! The rooms were fairly average size but the hallways, facade, dining hall were immaculate. There isn't too much to do but experience the hotel and that's why I would recommend a stay like this especially in the Palmela Pousada for a night or two or consider staying to break up your drive through the country. Also another piece of good advice is if you have an extra night to stay before going to the airport this is a perfect pit stop on the way! I had never heard of the Pousadas de Portugal before this but you should definitely check them out.

Room Tip: Get one with a view of Palmela!

I have been in this very nice hotel several times for business reasons. The vista is wonderful, as well as the hotel itself, built into an ancient castle. The personnel is friendly and overall very polite. The only little flaw is if, and when, you need to get out of the hotel in the early morning hours. I am used to have a run every morning at around 5-6 AM. Every time I had to exit from the hotel (the exit gate is locked up) I had to almost literally shout for several minutes before the clerk woke up and unlocked the gate for me. It would be best either to provide the guests a key or passcode to open the gate or place a ring or something similar close to the reception desk!

Think i spend more $$$ going to Medevil times show in Canada. Why not spend a night in a real Medevil Castle/Convent complex for a bit more and get wined and dined.

This place is about 30 min south of Lisbon near Setubal in the village of Palmela. Purchased the 1/2 board package which in my opinion is a good deal with food and free stays for kids ...

This place is perched on top of the hill and can be seen far away even in Setubal or the toll hiway. The hotel is really in a converted convent and the Castle and ruins are basically just outside.

Our room was a suite (free upgrade) and it was huge with separate seating area. Decorated very auethentically. Room 102 with amzing view of terrece and orange groves and Setubal and the sea in the distance. As they would say in Disney, very magical..t.......Washroom in room was not very modernized but ok...as it adds to the character of the stay.

Very few people around in pousada so very quiet in day and nigh
The lobby and seating areas and very nice and the courtyard is especially nice with modern patio furniture that you can have a drink and do your wifi. The terrece in the back is also nice with umbrellaed tables/chairs. Just bring a book and a bottle of wine out there and chill and listen to the chickens below.

Dinner was very good. Had pumpkin soup, ordeuves, seabass and veggies and it also included a buffet dessert table with amzing choc cheesecakes and pineapple tortes etc..... Also tried the veal with scalloped potato - very good - pricier, and also the veal cinnomon stew (large portion). Kids meal included huge portion of spagetti bolougnese prepared in front of you for 5 Euros... Deal. Drink pricier for Portugal but still reasonable for staying in such a place.

Breaky was nice esp atomosphere of where you sat inside hallway. Good selection of cold cuts, eggs, really good lean smokey bacon, really good breads, croissants, fresh fruit (pappaya etc..), and reg stuff and yummy sponge cake and pastel de nata tarts. Coffee was machined but ok... Soya milk, fresh juices etc... so good selection

Overall great place..

Short day visits can be made to Setubal old town. very nice feel in main square and narrow street. Even better is to explore the coast Arrábida Natural Park. Nice beaches, crystal clear water. Portihino is very busy but relaxing. (1/2 hr away)....

Take a walk in Palmela village at night after dinner and it's got this spooky feeling as pretty abandoned at night.

This was our first of 2 pousadas we stayed at during this trip. It was very different from the other which was amazing too. Estoi Palace. Both should be visited.. Estoi does have a pool though.

Room Tip: suite with view overlooking orchard/city

We stayed here for one night in April, 2014, on our 1st day driving out of Lisbon. It was easy to make reservations directly through the Internet with good deals. Wish we had decided to stay 2 nights to really enjoy the facility and the castle next door. The drive was a little challenging for the last few miles - winding lanes and a hairpin turn into the parking lot. However, the facility was wonderful. The staff truly enjoy their jobs - and told us a great deal about the site's history. The room was spacious and quiet. We had a great dinner here and then a pleasant breakfast in the morning. We walked all around the outside and took lots of photos. The views looking down at the town were outstanding.

Room Tip: Look for deals on the Internet. You can get discounts if you sign up for their reward program and p...
