Description: Arola's menus offer a creative and contemporary twist to Portuguese cuisine, mixing tradition and heritage with his inimitable modern approach. Like his mentor, Arola seeks to give diners unexpected contrasts of flavour and texture with the ultimate aim of provoking, surprising and delighting his guests. Food is available throughout the day and for dinner Arola's take on the Portuguese tapas will compete with his more elaborate main courses. Wines will be served from a glass cellar, situated mid-restaurant. Live Dj from Wednesday to Sunday.

Staying at the nearby Penha Longa we had the oppertunity to dine here twice. First night was the speacial Sunday tapas offer at 41 euro - was an amazing 5 star wouw experience - super service - great surprises in the dishes served and really tasty.

Decided to go for another night - chose the Arola menu - sad to say, we were very disapointed this time. Dont know if it was a different chef in the kitchen this night - but found servings a bit ordinary this night and without the wouw factor we experinenced the previos night.

Add to this that our waiter maybe had an off day - maybe he just didnt like us or just had an off day - none the less he wasnt vey good at explaing the servings , slow on serving drinks. Maybe it was just this particular waiter from Canada and the chef which had an off day - I hope so and would recommend this place because I belive they can do better - we saw that first time we were there.

We had dinner at Arola on our first night at Penha Longa as part of our half-board booking, and we were very pleasantly surprised. To start with, the atmosphere is set right upon the golf course with a wonderful 180 view of the green. The restaurant itself is modern, with lots of light, and a magnificent attitude.

At the beginning of our visit, our waiter was a bit slow bringing drinks and things, but once the food started coming (in 5 courses!) he was right on top of it, with the help of his colleagues. I won't reiterate everything we ate, but it was all extremely creative and superbly tasty. My boyfriend and I kept joking about how we'd have to go eat a burger at the hotel afterward because all of the portions were so small, but we were pleasantly surprised and satisfied!

We ordered cocktails after dessert - a cosmo and margarita - and I have to say that is my only complaint of the place. My cosmo was terrible, even after I asked the waitress to have it made again. What we learned later though, is that they didn't have a proper bar tender. The wonderful part is that they were open to suggestions, and let me show them how to make a proper one! We spent both nights we were at the hotel drinking cocktails at Arola. Our waitress' name was Constansa, and she was fabulous!! Make sure she sees this review!

On Sunday nights, they serve tapas only. There is no menu, so you put yourself into the capable hands of the chef. They check with you first in case you have any food allergies or things that you just can't eat. Then, the chef cooks up whatever strikes his fancy.

It is really an adventurous trip through 8-10 dishes... each delicious course was elegantly presented. Fresh ingredients and unique flavors made for an amazing meal. The pace is leisurely, but you never feel a lack of attention. Service is friendly and caring, and we were seated immediately even without a reservation.

The staff here is flexible and easily able to accommodate different people and their needs, which we experienced around 7:30 PM. One group came off the golf course, and they were seated outside for casual cocktails. We saw a family with a small baby, and a larger group that seemed like a multi-generational family. There were couples, and business colleagues. The atmosphere in the restaurant is modern, with lots of neutral white color. It seemed perfect for such a variety of customers. (Later in the evening, there's a nightclub and DJ in the restaurant/bar.)

Again - really great food. At the end of a long trip, it was a treat to be relieved of the responsibility of making choices of what to eat. Very relaxing!

The best presentation of food I have seen in quite a while. The tapas was exquisite in the combination of the flavors and visual appeal. The service was impeccable. One of the guests was vegetarian and the whipped up some very unique dishes and though we had to wait a few minutes for it all to arrive, it was so well worth the wait.

We were at the Arola Restaurant for our 10th wedding anniversary, and it was a fantastic experience: the food, the wine, the kindness of the staff,...we really loved it and we sincerely recommended.
