“Typical Portuguese restaurant”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

We had ordered far too much food here, and most was delicious. It was full of locals, which is always a good sign! My daughter's pork and beef kebab was a bit tough, but the rest of us had steaks cooked in different ways, and they were very nice indeed. Even those typical dishes like a strange mushy garlicky bread were a pleasure to try, although not quite our ''bag'. The ice cream dessert was huge, and all for €3; we couldn't finish it. The service was excellent too.

“A Portuguese gem”
Reviewed 20 June 2013

This is very much a typical Portuguese restaurant and is off the tourist trail. The food and wine are excellent and the cabrito (young goat) is especially good. The sweets are home made and delicious. This restaurant is highly recommended.

“A little gem in Cabriz, Sintra”
Reviewed 18 June 2013

This restaurant was recommended to us by Pedro, the caddy master at Penha Longa golf club in Sintra. He is a local from Cabriz and we asked him for a good restaurant, not touristy but where the locals like to go.
We were not disappointed. The name suggests that their signature dish is made of baby goat, or kid, but at this time we did not order that.
The service was extremely friendly, Ricardo, the son of the owner is fluent in English (and so is his brother) and was very helpful in explaining the menu to us. The restaurant was busy but they took their time for each of their guests. We had one of the best meals of our entire stay in Portugal and we have been to many a restaurant.
We highly recommend Curral dos Caprinos to anyone who likes to venture out and eat with the locals. Oh yes, the price is very agreeable as well. Good house wine, €8 per bottle? The whole meal cost us £25 pp...and that was well worth the detour.
Thanks Ricardo and family for your great service and welcome. We will be back!

“A Beautiful place. Welcome”
Reviewed 8 May 2013

We ate there twice during our two day visit and saw at least two large family gatherings each night. When we got back to town, the restaurants on the main drag in Sintra had emptied while they were still going strong. One night, someone had ordered goat for fifty people and had their driver go fifty miles to pick it up! They have no negative reviews on TripAdvisor and have been around for 75 years or so. What does that tell you? Go!
I’m generalizing too much but basically in Spain and Portugal the menu should read: How do you want your Iberico ham and cheese, with or without cod? Unless you go to a family restaurant catering to local people. They have goat, lamb, chicken, sole, and even the rarest of rare, Veal. Portions are Texas size and include real actual green and orange (perfectly-cooked) vegetables. The goat and shrimp Ka-bob was so tender we thought it was marinated. The fish was so fresh it had no unpleasant odors (I’m squeamish.) A good portion of their selections is locally sourced- like from their own farm! If you like deserts just skip the meal. I think they serve 10 different fresh fruits! The custards and flans are really rich and wonderful. I recommend the mango mousse. It has a strong flavor of mango and very creamy. And 1 euro! Then there was almond cake and almond pie, many flavors of ice cream, and on and on. Go!
They are pretty easy to find (neon goats!) and parking is across the street in a lot. The Wait staff is very good with young children. The interior is warm and rustic. Bathrooms are immaculate. About half the staff speaks English (probable more languages) and there are English menus. The two waiters that we dealt with were extremely friendly, funny and personable. Although one of them claims to be 33, I wonder. Another was born in an English colony but you’ll have to guess where. If you have trouble deciding, they can be very helpful. Go!

“Good family restaurant with an unusual twist”
Reviewed 9 April 2013

Caprinos are goats and they are on the menu as well as starring at you from the walls ! It is family run and I think they also raise the goats. Plenty of locals for Sunday lunch as well as a few tourists. We let the waiter choose a few of their specialties for us and the roasted goat with roasted potatoes was delicious. Another good choice was the unavoidable baccalau, salty cod fish. The decor is typical farm style with implements and garlic bunches hanging from the ceiling. For a very local experience I recommend to try this. Prices are reasonable.
