Lawrence's Hotel was the perfect place to stay in Sintra. The location, the room, the service were all fabulous. This hotel matches the charm of the city. We walked everywhere from our hotel, and there is a bus stop right out the front door that can take you too the castles on the top of the hill, although walking would be fine. We also liked that you were not overwhelmed with hotel staff. You check in and they leave you be, but we're available if you needed something. We stayed in the "buena vista" room (I think that is what it was called) and it was very romantic.

The location of this hotel is simply serene – gently swaying eucalyptus trees all around, and wandering sheep's bells in the distance below the trees. When we stayed there mid-July, Lisbon was sizzling in hot weather while Sintra was considerably cooler and much more comfortable. The hotel rooms are clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Our room was bigger than most in this hotel category of historical hotels. Beds are comfortable and breakfast buffet is generous.

It would be a shame not to spend at least a few nights in Sintra- this lovely town has so much to offer- but you'd want somewhere classy, oozing charm and with a historical past to stay. Lawrence's ticks all the boxes. It is rumoured to be the oldest hotel on the Iberian peninsula, dating from 1790 - lord Byron stayed here- but it has of course been lovingly restored and modernised, without losing that special appeal.
We stayed in the Eca de Quieroz suite, named after the famous Portuegese writer who stayed there, and I've seldom
seen a room as lovely as this one. Light and airy, wonderfully quiet and with great views, with cosy and comfy sofa's and an enormous bed.
The hotel is very centrally located- the walks to the Moorish Castle and Pena Palace start nearby, and the National Palace is 5 min away. It was great to come home after a busy day of sightseeing and wind down in the lovely rosegarden of the hotel.
To top the whole experience , Lawrence's has a famous restaurant which presents you with the best the modern Portuegese cuisne has to offer. Bliss. And o, did I mention the helpful staff at the reception desk?

We stayed in this hotel during a 2 day visit to Sintra. It is a lovely old hotel which is well maintained. Our room was well furnished and well decorated. There are also some lovely sitting areas around the hotel. There is free wifi in the reception area and the close by sitting areas.

We ate in the restaurant one night and the food and service were both great and they also had a great wine list. The hotel staff generally are also very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is OK, but there isn't a huge amount of variety.

The hotel has a great position - a 5 minute walk from the centre of Sintra. The 435 bus (which comes from the station and goes up to the moorish castle and Pena Palace) stops just near the front door.

I would recommend this hotel.

We, a retired couple, stayed at Lawrence's for two nights in late June 2012. the hotel is well-situated in the old town, not far from the Nacional Palace and only a 5€ taxi ride up the steep road to the Pena Palace, from which we later walked down to the Moorish Castle and then back down to the old town again. We drove through the narrow, hilly Sintra streets to get to the hotel but the pre-provided directions were good and we were able to pull over to the curb and quickly unload before being taken to the nearby locked parking (included). We had an absolutely charming room with views over treed areas in two directions, a balcony on which to enjoy a pre-dinner drink, beautiful furnishings and an exquisitely comfortable large bed. There was an excellent hot and cold breakfast buffet in the main dining room, where we also ate for one of our two evening meals. The hotel is justifiably as well-known for its restaurant (which was surprisingly affordable) as for its lovely 18th century ambience. All staff in the hotel and dining room was uniformly cheerful and helpful. There was free wifi, and - although it did not seem to reach our room- there were several comfortable "living rooms" in which to use it. We doubt that there could be a better option for a couple of nights in this wonderful town.
