Lawrence's Hotel is a landmark. It is very close to anything you might want to do in the center of Sintra. It is quiet and comfortable. The rooms are spacious and pretty. I had a balcony overlooking a wooded hillside. It smelled so good and the air was so cool and relaxing. I could hear the occasional rooster or sheep's bell. The restaurant in very good as well. Just what one needs after a long day of climbing the mountains and touring castles!

Room Tip: The rooms have names and real keys, remember those? So go by the name of your room. The numbers are...

Myself and five friends recently stayed for three nights at this hotel. I loved its old charm ambience, however some of my friends thought it all looked a little dated and tired. The separate lounges to sit and relax were lovely, likewise the restaurant, which we only used for breakfast. The rooms varied considerably as we had three to compare, ranging from barely big enough to huge. The staff were fantastic, nothing too much trouble. Therefore, if you prefer old world style this is the hotel for you in this picturesque part of the world.

Room Tip: The disabled room is obviously larger than average with a good wet room, however the downstairs room...

After an 8 mile hike into Sintra, this hotel was a perfect place to rest our feet, and begin to feel the charm of the city.It was easy to relax on our patio as we watched and listened to the sheep and goats and their bells and bleating. you really felt the charm and ambience of Sintra as you relaxed and soaked up the charm of the hotel. The location is perfect for visiting the palaces, restaurants, and castles of Sintra

Room Tip: Ask for a room that overlooks the woods

We spent a night at Lawrence taking two rooms. We had requested quiet rooms but were given two rooms onto the road and over their kitchens. We have children so retire early. The constant banging of pots and pans and bashing of their noisy coffee machine will keep you awake until the restaurant closes and after that the creaky floor boards above mean that every step from above is heard. We tried to complain reaching for our phones. The phones in both rooms were not working. The staff were apologetic and friendly but that's it. The breakfast was disappointing. The fruit on offer looked as though it was left overs from the previous evening being limp and tired. The hotel is in a prefect location and does not deserve it's five star rating (which should be removed) until at least some attempt is made to sound proof the rooms so people who stay their can get some sleep.

Room Tip: away from the road and on the top floor.

The hotel enchants with beautiful views over the valley and far off serenades from the goat and sheep wandering below with their bells and bleating! Position is perfect within 5 min walk of the Quinta da Regaleira - definitely worth a visit.

The room was clean, comfortable and spacious, although a little tired (the Tea House suite). The restaurant was slightly disappointing since this is supposed to be the main attraction - breakfast eggs were overcooked and the fruit platter very tired, but the pastries were good! I wouldn't go back for dinner.

The girls on reception were very helpful and keen to assist with any enquiry. We had a car which we parked in a secure area about 2 mins walk up the hill. WiFi was available in our room as it was above reception and the modem!

Lawrence's Hotel was the perfect place to stay in Sintra. The location, the room, the service were all fabulous. This hotel matches the charm of the city. We walked everywhere from our hotel, and there is a bus stop right out the front door that can take you too the castles on the top of the hill, although walking would be fine. We also liked that you were not overwhelmed with hotel staff. You check in and they leave you be, but we're available if you needed something. We stayed in the "buena vista" room (I think that is what it was called) and it was very romantic.

The location of this hotel is simply serene – gently swaying eucalyptus trees all around, and wandering sheep's bells in the distance below the trees. When we stayed there mid-July, Lisbon was sizzling in hot weather while Sintra was considerably cooler and much more comfortable. The hotel rooms are clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Our room was bigger than most in this hotel category of historical hotels. Beds are comfortable and breakfast buffet is generous.
