The gardens are extensive and varied, my favourite part was the fern valley. Nice walk from Sintra via a footpath just beyond Quinta da Regaleira. Don't miss the Chalet of the Countess of Edla - like something out of a Brothers Grimm fairytale.

If you don't do or see anything else in Sintra, you need to see and do this! Simply amazing. Words can not describe the beauty and the scale of this palace. Breathtaking and fabulous. Be sure to take the bus - it is a 45 minute walk all uphill at a 30 to 40 degree angle. My husband and I walked to Moor's Castle which is not as far up as Pena, and that climb was positively exhausting.

Expansive and full historical and natural sights. Bring your walking shoes. We used hop on hop off trolley which is recommended.

A beautiful palace inside and out. Well kept. Amazing view all around. Hard to access by foot. Worth the hassle to get there.

This is a fantastic place to visit, the interior and exterior are breathtaking. Our son had a great time walking on the ramparts ( although i might have hoped for a few more safety barriers! ).

It was a foggy and rainy day so we were not able to see the views, or spend much time in the gardens , but i have no doubt they would be equally good. I would definitely recommend.
