The Museum is a fair walk from Sintra, it's way beyond the station, but it is worth it. It is very spacious and the art work beautifully displayed. We were the only visitors, the staff were very welcoming and we loved the place. Brilliant value at €1 each (free if you are over 60) I was 60 and one day, my first ever concession!)

We travelled to Sintra and planned to visit the Berardo collection in the Museum of Modern Art, only to find that it no longer exists - or at least not as it was. Since May 2014 the gorgeous building now is the Arts Museum of Sintra (MUSA Museu das Artes de Sintra) and doesn't hold the Berardo collection. However, it is home to wonderful art from Portuguese artists including Emilio de Paula Campos and an extensive display of Dorita Castel-Branco's sculptures, drawings and paintings. There is also a room for temporary exhibitions and a luminous display of photographs of Sintra. The building is magnificent and the small charge is very reasonable. There was no fee for a child.

The Museum of Modern Art, housing an important private collection owned by the businessman Jose Berardo, with works by Bacon, Pollock, Hockney, Nauman and Warhol, amongst other important 20th century artists. Apart from the permanent collection, there is is an area for temporary exhibitions.
From the coffee shop and the terrace on the top floor we can enjoy wonderful views of the Palacio da Pena.

This museum hosts the Berardo Collection (---- ) that focus on modern art.
Lisbon now wants a share of this collection and pretends to open a new space in Belém to host it.
It's not a large collection and perhaps is only worth a trip to Sintra to see itif you're really into this type of art but is definitevely worth to go there if you plan to go to Sintra.
It's located in the modern part of Sintra not far from the train station
