We stumbled onto this restaurant (and hotel) because we wanted to eat something before visiting the nearby Quinta de Reguleira which requires a lot of climbing. The restaurant is on the N 375 just before the start of the N246-3 but unless you have a good local map or a GPS you can ask a policeman or the tourist info in Sintra for directions.

We were a couple and had lunch with drinks for under 25 euros total, which is good value in a very popular tourist area. The food was good but not exceptional, service was sometimes slow but we were outside the main dining area. I will go back if we are in the area.

We were there last summer - tired, thirsty and hungry, the Lawrence Restaurant was almost closed but they very obligingly served us a great meal!! Excellent service and the food was delicious! The restaurante itself is beautiful, with great views and quaint decor. Definitely recommendable!

This restaurant is recommended in a guide book about Lisbon. It is away from the other restaurants in the town of Sintra. The building is old fashioned looking but has the look of class. Inside it oozes character. We sat in the main restaurant which is full of charm. Old fashioned service with great ambience. The waiters/waitresses are dressed appropriately and are efficient and polite.
There were two main menus. One has the daily lunchtime specials. The other has the a la carte dishes. Three of us had a starter. I had a crab soufflé which was delicious. It even came covered with a large silver covering dome, as did one of the other starters which was a goat's cheese crepe. The main courses were served in the same way. Two waiters lifting the lids to expose the well presented dishes goes back in time to old fashioned standards of waiting on tables. All the dishes were well presented, hot and tasty.
Only one of our party had a dessert, which was an unusual style of cheesecake. We all had coffee and petit fours. The bottle of good quality red Portuguese wine represented good value for money at 14 Euros. The bill came to a total of 150 Euros including a tip. Rather pricey for a lunchtime meal, but quite an experience.

We were there as part of the restaurant week and it was probably the best experience we've had in restaurant weeks so far. Everything from the food to the hospitality was on a very high level. We would most certainly recommend this restaurant and we will be back.

On a whirlwind working tour of Spain & Portugal, I was fed up of eating poor fast food, so looked up Lawrence's on TA. I didn't want too stuffy but being a foody, was tempted by the Pork on the online menu. If you like linen and clean cutlery, pleasant service and very good cooking (the pork dish exceeded expectations) then this is for you. It's pricey: the wine list could make you cry; but keep it in perspective with all the other s**t you've eaten it's well worth it. The walk back into Lisbon past floodlit castles, ancient village squares etc make for a charming evening. Give it a try.
