... the bathrooms will look familiar. But before I review this hotel, let's have a discussion about something few Europeans and those in blue state America seem to want to address: parking. Perhaps it is because they are used to paying through the nose for it back home. At this Ibis there are more than 20 free spaces out front and on the sides that are free. Below ground parking is 1€! I was told. That's amazing regardless of where your are. If you go to Sintra to visit the palaces, understand that there is free parking at all the palaces except the one in "historico" Sintra, the double cone thing. So there may not be a need to stay in historico Sintra unless you really want to. Yes parts of it are quaint, etc., but it is also a tourist trap. And in the high season, the palace parking lots may be full. So if your visit to Sintra is NOT in the high season or you can get your butt out of bed early and get to the palaces early to snag a free parking space, the Sintra Ibis might be a good choice. Just do some research. There are buses to the palaces for a fee from historico Sintra. Anyway the Ibis is a fairly new hotel with well-engineered sound proofing so there is less noise coming from the tv/sex/kids next door, above, or below. I realize that euro-snobs may turn up there noise at an Ibis and ymmv depending on the Ibis. And this one is in a commercial zone. But access is good. Our room was right next to IC19 and we didn't hear a bit of traffic. It was sparsely furnished but clean, sort of euro modern Bauhaus. And as mentioned the bathroom was reminiscent of the head on a beneteau sailboat but bigger: gleaming white fiberglass and faux-teak floors; almost cocoon-like. We stayed here for three nights in February to explore Sintra and have little negative to say about it. IC19 is right there and historico Sintra is a straight shot once you are one it. Coming out of Sintra on IC19, take the second 13 exit to Mems Martin. Google maps incorrectly shows the location of the hotel if using there routing instructions. The only negative is the breakfast. You don't have to buy it and it is a bit pedestrian. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
