A special offer prompted my wife and I to spend 7 nights at Seteais for our first trip to Portugal. We did have some trouble finding it as we arrived on a week-end and half of Portugal seems to be strolling in the old town. The building is impressive from the outside but perhaps more so from the inside. Walking around inside seems as though no more than 50% of the inside space is kept for the hotel rooms. A number of antique decorated salons are there as sitting rooms. The restaurant / breakfast room is quite large, the hallways are quite wide, the staircases are true palacio staircases and all is beautifully decorated.
The rooms do appear modest in size as compared with all this public space. Reception was excellent whereas food and maid service deserved no more than 4 stars. Our room facing the parking lot :<( also had a great direct view on the royal palace up on the hill !
All in all a great spot to visit the area. I would recommend renting a car to get around (except for hikers). The train to Lisbon is most practical as there is a departure every 20 minutes to the center of town. The Sintra train station is quite a walk from the hotel (1,5 miles ?) so we drove there as we could not imagine walking back after a full day in Lisbon.More
