“Sintra The most farytale city in the world”
Reviewed 7 September 2010

This is the most fabolous city that I have ever been. I really enjoy each stay there.

The location You could not find better - just few steps from market square. Please do not make mistake that the center is where is railway station.
The reception staff is competent.
I have a room wit very nice view on the historical city of Sintra. I saw the sea side and on mountains all the monuments. When You open the window and go sleap You will wake up very relaxed because of fresh air.
The bed is not so comfortable and there were not additional pillows. But when You are for romantic holidays I do not care as much as in business.

The building is a little bit old and hotel is in old style. The breakfast was not so good and the off was little.

In this city there is not a lot of hotels so it was the only chose to take miles points.

You must visit the city of Sintra!

Tivoli is situated in the heart of old city, walking distance from everything. The room was very spacious and classy. It offered a breathtaking view of Sintra and had a very cute balcony. The bed was super comfortable and the breakfast definitely worth it. I read complains about the service and I must agree though I don't really care. I was weirded out from a woman on the restaurant who didn't even know one word in english even if her job was to ask us what's our room number. Oh.. and there's indoor parking in the hotel.
All in all it's a wonderful/romantic stay, right in the heart of Sintra.

Enjoyed this hotel greatly. Reserved romantic weekend package and the hotel went beyond its promises. Yes, it's 1970s style, a bit wornout, but then again, the service at the hotel restaurant for dinner was of a bygone era too: impeccable. Staff sympathetic and helpful, room clean with a tremendous view of the surrounding mountains and valley, buffet breakfast generous and with much to choose from. Location close to everything Sintra has to offer. Took and recommend taking the train to Sintra, parking in the whole area looks tough.

I went here for my honeymoon with my wife. After incredible stays in Lisboa, Porto, and Coimbra, we expected Sintra to be the perfect end to our Portugal stay. We couldn´t have been more wrong. The hotel is allegedly rated 4 stars, but are 4 star hotels supposed to have bugs in the bath tub? Rude and unsympathetic staff?? How about air conditioning that doesn´t work? Flourescent lights that buzz as if they were running on engines?? We were scheduled to stay for 3 nights, but left after only 12 hours and skipped town back to Lisboa where we were treated like royalty and a similarly priced hotel. Our room smelled of sweat and must, the entire hotel is cramped and outdated, and the place was so unbearably hot and humid. My wife asked for someone to open a bottle of wine for us and she was scolded for not calling the bar from the reception desk. My wife and I are both seasoned travelers due to our careers and this hotel ranks among the worst for both of us. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this PIT. Maybe I was expecting too much, but four stars at least equals no bugs in the bathroom. Just because you put designer soaps and lotions in the 1970s bathroom does not make you an upscale hotel. As the saying goes, you can put a silk hat on a pig but its still a pig.

The Tivoli has a great location in the centra of Sintra but it's looking a bit dated these days. On the upside is the location, the excellent staff and the size and cleanliness of the rooms. On the downside is the 1980's decor and the uncomfortable beds (two pathetic pillows on a double bed - come on?!). All up I'd recommend this hotel, but with a warning about the decor and beds.

stayed one night, didn't require much and the hotel didn't give much so probably a pretty good match. the bartender in the hotel bar was nice and there is a happy hour around 19.00 worth taking advantage of. room was old and outdated but good size and beds were comfortable and there was a balcony. good location. considerding the fact that sintra is probably 25% more expensive for everything than the rest of portugal, the rooms here seem to be a good value. the "free parking" is limited to a garage that fits about 20 cars total so be prepared to look for street parking (which we found down below and behind the hotel) if you check in later.

We stayed in Tivoli Sintra for one night as part of our 8 days trip to Portugal. As we prefer booking 4 to 5 stars hotels, my expectations should have been rather well "tuned" but still this hotel was able to disappoint me like not many before.

We had booked standard room with Valley view, which we kind of got the only problem being that the view was from a separate "living room" that was without air con and therefore impossible to use (due to +40 temperature in the room). The room was really worn out and the whole hotel outdated. In addition their non-smoking rooms had obviously been used as a smoking room, so the room was extremely musty. Service was vary basic as was the breakfast.

The positive sides were that the staff was able to provide us with another, real non-smoking room and that the location next to Sintra centre was good. In addition, they had free parking for hotel guests.

However, I would not recommend this for anyone who hopes to enter a 4-star hotel.
