“Lovely stay...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2013

We recently attended a wedding in Sintra & were recommended to the SIntra Boutique Hotel by friends & decided to make it a long weekend. The hotel is easy to find and despite being warned of limited parking, we were able to find the hotel easily & park outside every day of our stay. Upon arrival (4 hours before the official check in time) we asked if we could leave our bags and explore the area but were told we could already access our room as it was ready early. The room was immaculately clean and tidy, fresh and airy, with a huge comfortable twin/double bed and pillow menu. The view from the room across to the town centre and valley were stunning although I dont think we would have been comfortable having the windows open had the children been with us as they were very low indeed.
Breakfast was excellent with a fantastic variety of fresh food, fruit, pastries, nice coffee etc, although the one evening we ate in the restaurant the meal was considerably below what I expected considering what the menu offering was... I think this was most likely due to the fact that we were in a large group (12) and they were used to serving couples.
In hindsight I would have gone to the restaurant/bar across the street in the square which was brilliant (we had eaten there at lunch time). In the evening they could tell we wanted to stay and invited us onto the roof terrace which had not formally been opened to the public as they were just finishing work on it & it was excellent... beautiful views, reasonable prices & lovely evening sunshine with great service. Its also worth noting that in Sintra we were told its not customary to leave a tip although we did as we were very happy.
The hotel service was great & they went above and beyond their roles by booking tickets for the segway tours etc on our behalf, arranging taxis etc & I have nothing but praise for their helpfulness & can-do attitudes. The only improvements would be in the restaurant in the evenings & maybe the presence of a better bar/relaxtion area...
Thank you very much!

We have just stayed at Sintra Boutique Hotel for 4 nights. We chose this hotel after reading the glowing reviews on Tripadvisor which have given the hotel the top spot however we felt slightly disappointed during our stay at SBH. We were planning on writing a review, (as we often do after a very good/bad stay at a hotel) we then received an email from the hotel saying that they hoped we had enjoyed our stay etc and could we leave a review on TA, this saddens us as we feel that if a guest in impressed/unimpressed enough they will leave a review anyway.
The hotel is in a good position in the small town of Sintra. The greeting on arrival could only be described as cordial. The receptionist showed us to our room, showed us which cupboard the coffee machine was in and left. It would be nice to have some information in the room detailing how to use coffee machine, the channels available on TV etc… The room was spotlessly clean and was cleaned to a high standard each day, compliments to housekeeping for this. The room was modern with a good bathroom with quality fittings. Bedding was good with a very comfortable bed, curtains did a good job of blocking out the light on a morning. Breakfast was okay, 3 mornings it was a buffet the other was waitress service. There was a card hung on the door handle in the room to be filled in with breakfast requests but was unclear if this was for eating in the dining room or the bedroom. Good selection of fruit, cereals and pastries, eggs provided on request, took a long time to be given eggs after placing order so would recommend that you order them on arrival in dining room. The girl that waited on at breakfast was very pleasant and efficient, the most helpful member of staff we met at the hotel.
Unfortunately tho a coffee machine and ‘coffee pods’ are provided there is no milk provided, we asked for milk, unfortunately for us this was classed as room service and we charged 2 euro for the little jug of milk that was brought to the room. We do appreciate that many Portuguese drink expresso coffee black, but there are many guests that will take milk in their coffee and that for a “4 star” hotel to not provide milk as part of their tea/coffee making facilities is disappointing to say the least. It was also 4 euro for a fun size tobelerone and fun size mars bar again we think unreasonable.
There was very little information in the hotel about the surrounding area, a few visitor pamphlets about the castle, palace, train service etc… would be useful.
On checking out we expressed our view that we felt the milk should not be charged for but got little response from the receptionist who did not even ask if we had enjoyed our stay etc.
A man who we assumed to be the owner was also around each day (usually at breakfast) including when we were checking out however he did not speak and was quite dour.
We realize that the concerns we have may seem quite trivial however, when as guests we have paid to stay at the top rated hotel at some expense we believe that these are the small touches that separate a genuinely excellent hotel from an average hotel. We will be returning to the area later in the year to attend a wedding, but will not stay at this hotel.

After two nights in Lisbon we moved onto Sintra and enjoyed everything about our stay at this charming hotel. Top marks to the staff for their assistance and professionalism; we felt they were genuinely pleased to see us. The room was excellently appointed and I particularly liked the window seat where I could watch the comings and goings on the approach to the National Palace. We ate in the hotel restaurant both evenings and, again would recommend this too. The menu was not too extensive, but varied and the cooking and service were excellent. We would have loved to have stayed longer in this fascinating town and would certainly return to this hotel.

Room Tip: I liked the rooms at the front overlooking the National Palace and didn't find it too noisy alth...

We flew into Liboa and started our holiday in the UNESCO city of Sintra at the Sintra Boutique Hotel. It is situated right across the street from the National Palace and ideal for walking to a few of the sights. However, if you are traveling by car, be advise that the hotel is situated on a one way street and a challenge to get to and to park. I would suggest advising the staff ahead of time if you will have a car so that they can make arrangements and provide directions. The rooms are nice and new but small and very contemporary. So, if you are looking for the old, traditional palace feel then this is not it. Personally, I liked the new beds and pillows and slept very well here. The front rooms are next to busy street so if you sleep with windows open you will need ear plugs. Great view of the city but city noise comes with great view. Internet works well here. Breakfast room is also contemporary and stark white. Coffee and breakfast is good.

Room Tip: Front rooms have great views but noisy so bring ear plugs or pick room in back

My wife and I stayed for six nights. We've both travelled all over the world and the Sintra Boutique Hotel is one of the best, if not the best, small hotel we've stayed in. From the moment of the internet booking to our departure, everything was perfect.
The hotel is new and has been designed in a sympathetic style to blend in well with the older buildings on either side. Both the bedrooms and public areas have been finished to a very high standard with high quality furnishings and fittings. Everything is spotlessly clean. Attention to detail is a feature so that the tiled marble of the entrance foyer is modelled on the tiled entrance hall of the National Palace - situated very conveniently just across the street.
The reception staff were knowledgeable, always helpful, ever patient, and genuinely interested in us. On one occasion they even arranged for my hire car to be retrieved from far away in the town when it was not possible to park at the hotel. Air conditioning is provided in the bedrooms if you want it, but all three windows in our room opened to let in plenty of fresh air. Much more healthy! There were tea/coffee making facilities and a small minibar in the room and free Wi-fi internet. There was a choice of pillow type.
The full breakfast was sometimes a buffet and sometimes to individual order. The food was delicious and tastefully presented. The hotel has its own restaurant open for lunches and dinner.
The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful town of Sintra and its World Heritage surroundings.
We enjoyed our stay immensely and we recommend this hotel without reservation.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good but request one with a view over the town. We had a corner suite on the secon...

We decided to return for a long week-end at Sintra and everybody agreed: stay in Sintra Boutique Hotel like the last time!
At our request we stayed in the same room...because of the good memories...
Everything went smoothly, and although we arrived later then expected everybody was nice and we had time to unpack and enjoy dinner (I said enjoy not just eat)...and the same the next night.
Breakfast were nice, with those little touches...
What I really didn't like? When it was time to leave...
But we intend to return perhaps in October when Sintra is not so crowded.

We stayed at the Sintra boutique hotel for three nights in May 2013. I cannot praise them enough for the excellent service we received even before we arrived. From the time of booking until we got there we received emails making sure all our needs would be met at the hotel. The day before we arrive the hotel even emailed to warn us that a Marathon would be held in the town on the day of our arrival and offering an early check in (no charge!) to avoid the traffic disruption. During our stay the staff were very helpful and efficient. They recommended an excellent restaurant on the night that there own was closed. The room was beautiful, freshly decorated and very comfortable. The hotel location could not be better as it is right in the historic centre of the town. We would highly recommend this hotel.
