“Different to the palaces”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

This was our second trip to Sintra and my partner wanted most of all to see this Although there is a "palace" you can tour, we had already seen the bigger palaces last year so we focussed on the gardens and the two wells and found the experience quite different to both the National Palace and the Pena Palace (although these are both well worth seeing).

The gardens are very well maintained and there are many little buildings and sculptures to take in, but the best part are the wells. If you only have time for one, find the Initiation Well from the top and walk down its circular staircase and out the underground tunnel. There is one place at the end where you must cross a stream using little rocks so if you have a poor sense of balance maybe this where you could fall in, but my partner has that problem (thanks to multiple surgeries) and she made it OK. This is like an Alice in Wonderland adventure. Enjoy.

“A must see in sintra ”

Worth the trip to sintra from lisbon. We spent 3 1/2 hours and could have stayed longer to explore everything in the gardens. This place is the stuff of fairy tales.

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2014

I was visiting a friend who live in Portugal part-time so she asked me to research what I wanted to do. I found this place on here and told her I really wanted to see this place. She has been to Sintra many, many times but never came here. We had a blast! The grounds are huge and extremely beautiful. The outside of the manor is really impressive and some parts of the inside are as well. What takes the cake with this place however, are the grounds. The caves, the water falls, the gardens, just amazing.
To get to it you can take the 435 bus and it drops you off right in front. Admission is 6 Euro for an adult and 4 for a student. If you have the time this is a must see!

“Perfect place to spend a few hours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2014

Little imagination and craziness can build wonderful things, and this is a prime example of a one.

A good walk away (for someone who likes walking) from Sintra train station and a bit longer trip from Palace of Pena (if you visit both by foot, I'd recommend to go from Pena down to here and then back to Sintra).

“Leave time to walk the grounds”

The amazingly detailed drawings inside the house show what went into creating this work of art, but the grounds and gardens are equally arresting. The chapel is perfect in every way.
