A great place to relax, enjoy the sun, and get inspired!!
We were greeted with a bottle of local wine and homemade cheese by the caretaker couple Leo and Cecile who showed us around this magnificent property. Once home to a Count's mistress, this is surely not your everyday villa. The decor is a nice mix of antiques and classic furniture making you feel right at home. There are four bedrooms each themed differently and each with their own bathroom. Actually, there are so many bathrooms, we lost count! The pool area is extremely elegant, sadly I was too cold to take a dip. But we enjoyed long lunches by the pool( there are two BBQ's) and in the evenings we sat by the fire pit under the nut tree. The views over the valley and the beautifully lit palace of Monserrate were just magical. Leo and Cecile, extended an invitation to learn milking the goats, collect fresh eggs and pick lemons right off the trees. Our kids just loved being at the farm, they did not want to leave. Especially when they got invited for a tractor ride! The walk to the village took only 10min, but one day Leo offered a special tour around the area which was great. All the above were the ingredients for a wonderful and unforgettable vacation and we will try to come back!!!
The villa is set back from the road with amazing views to the sea from the many terraces and pool area. The interior is immaculate with lovely bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas. We only used one of the three kitchens which was in the main building as it was most convenient; It was fully equipped but slightly small.
The friendly caretaker is on-site and immediately available if you have a problem. We were welcomed with cold drinks, nibbles and cava as it was my birthday.
The location is a 20 minute walk from Sintra along a country road without pavements over half the way. The historic town is beautiful, but attracts many tourists during the day which means long traffic jams and a one hour round trip to the supermarket. We took a tuc-tuc tour which was great fun and bypassed the traffic queues.
The villa is part of a small estate and there is quite a lot of to-ing and fro-ing of vehicles which slightly reduces the tranquility of the setting.
Overall we had an amazing week and as we drank the water in the well in the town, apparently, we will be back soon....Cant wait!
