“Good Hotel!”
Reviewed 1 December 2009

We booked in the internet of a relaxing weekend break! and payed 123 euros per night with breakfirst included for a twin-room with front sea view.
in the reception the staff are firndly and very helpfull. and the lobby area is very modern and nice, with pleny sofas and relaxing spots.
the room was very big, modern and sofisticated, with plasma Tv, fancy beds and sofas, a big balcony with sea view. the bathroom, was very nite too, with bath facilities separeted from the sanitaries. very good.
The spa area is one of the best i ever stayed, although you have yo pay just to enter it (15 euros),its marvelous!!!!!! as well as the indoor pool and jacuzi!
at dinner we went to the restaurant: what a disapoitment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was italian night! and froom Italy maybe a couple of pastas and the rest it was the normal and booring international food with few choices... the salad dressing brand were from the local super-marked (the cheapest you can buy......) - not for the standart of the rest of the hotel.......

Booked this hotel for a 4 night break in Madeira, after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor.

You will not be disappointed if you book this hotel. Great service from all the staff, buffet breakfast was excellent. The weather was fantastic and this 4 night break from the cold weather in the UK exceeded our expections.

We are a professional mature married couple (late 50s) who have regular holidays and are well travelled. Hotel Melia was opened last Nov 2008, and is one of a few modern contempory hotels that are now attracting younger clients. I understood from the locals, and taxi drivers that the Melia has developed a great reputation for service, comfort, quality of bedrooms and public areas, amenities etc, as well as being possibly the best value for money (for this standard of hotel) in the area.
Our standard room was kept exceptionall clean, and was fitted with all modern features, furniture, wall mounted flat tv, furniture, cushions, and robes. The bathroom was contempory style with twin basins, bath/two shower heads, and a seperate toilet & bidet.
The piano bar is a very nice place to have a pre dinner or after dinner drinks, and have a happy hour` between 6-8pm which helps a lot with the prices. Pedro & Bar Manager Valerno are top friendly guys.
In fact we found all the staff most friendly and helpfull.
Hotel position is excellent, with most room haveing good sea veiws, so you can see the cuise liners arriving and departing from the port. Also the hotel is situated in the modern part of town, and just a conveient distance from the bustle fo Funchal, being 1/2 hour maximum stroll.
Plenty of shops, supermarkets, bars & retaurants also in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.
The Melia hotel is just as good, if not better the the internet / broschure photo`s.....a wonderfull hotel that we will be visiting again soon.
Mike & Lynne.

Just returned from a week at this hotel and found it to be great value. The hotel is large, very new and is quite simply decorated- however it is still appealing. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were all friendly. The spa was a fabulous facility but a little understaffed so appointments were hard to come by. Our inital room was pleasant but a little small but we were able to upgrade for a reasonable sum. My only concern is that the hotel was quite empty which would not bode well for its future

Stayed a week bed and breakfast at the start of October.
Sea view room large and well appointed, free internet, large bathroom and lots of desk and storage space, roomy balcony with fabulous view.
Buffet breakfast was excellent, lots of selection plus omelettes etc on demand.
Used the pool bar - great sandwiches and other lunch choices. Pool itself was great and never seemed crowded.
Never ate dinner at the hotel - lots of interesting choices within walking distance
Staff helpful and efficient.
Pretty straightforward local bus in and out of town. Large shopping centre (Madeira Forum) a short walk from the hotel.
Overall a great choice in Madeira and Madeira is a fabulous place to visit.

Chose this hotel because of the reviews on trip advisor.Maybe we are too hard to please, but we were very disappointed with the service and the standard of food at a supposedly 5 star hotel.

Negatives:- On arrival the receptionist was curt , we were asked for our holiday voucher which we duly gave him along with a print out of the details of the room we had paid Thomas Cook extra for. (A considerable amount). We were given our room key and told our luggage would follow shortly if we didn't want to take it ourselves on the lift. We were also told not to leave the patio door open or the air conditioning wouldn't work (clever chap) and sent on our way. Not what we have experienced from a 5 star hotel before. We have always been taken and shown the workings of everything in the room by either the porter or receptionist. We eventually found our room ourselves to discover we had been given a normal rated room not the superior deluxe sea view room we had paid for. Returned to the same receptionist explained our situation and were told this was the room we had paid for. We asked him to check the print out we had already given him detailing the superior deluxe sea view room but he couldn't find it (not such a clever chap) eventually after an hour he agreed we were right and he was wrong, took a while but we somehow got there and were actually shown our proper room which we both agreed was what we were expecting .

The food was certainly not of 5 star standard a 4 star would be more appropriate. We had paid an exrtra £30 each per night for half board only worth half that amount.

We had a few other niggles over the week and on the last night but it would take to long to explain them. We would say the hotel surroundings are of a modern 5 star standard and the deluxe room when we eventually got it was of good standard and very clean but reception and restaurant need a vast overhaul with proper training too make them 5 STAR STANDARD.
