We stopped off for a quick lunch after the cable car by the old town.
The service was great and very friendly, the food was tasty and reasonably priced. Would recommend.

Whether it be the humble Portuguese snack or the truly memorable seafood dishes, this unassuming and (mostly) outdoor restaurant has it all.
From the perfect people-watching location to staff who go out of their way to make diners feel welcome. In terms of value, Arco Velha is hard to beat.
My wife particularly enjoyed the plain grilled sardines and my favourite was grilled octopus.
Yes, during our stay in Madeira, we dined in fancier places but this little establishment was right up there with them - and for all the right reasons.

We only wanted light lunch for 3 and ordered Tapas no1 which proved far to big for 3 and only €15, and with bolo do caco garlic bread and a litre of wine and coffees came to under €30 including service

Tapas had king prawns, whelks, winckles, mussels, green lip mussels , crab, limpets cockles all in different sauces plus dips.

Very nice, decent price.service relaxed and won't suit all but suited us!

We stopped off for a light lunch after stepping off the cable car. Service was friendly; shellfish tapas was very tasty and large portions. Garlic bread was home made and decent. Stopped off for a drink an another day and again the service was efficient and friendly.

This was a no frills place on the front, and it was refreshing not to have someone badger you to book a table or look at the menu. The food is really well priced, simple and tasty. I especially liked their soup to start (tomato and egg).
