Just arrived home from a lovely holiday in Madeira, having spent 11 nights at the Pestana Grand. We were very impressed with the hotel. It was modern and had all the facilities that you would expect. We had a room with a side view of the ocean, which was fine as really once you stood on the balcony you had a good sea view. Despite over looking part of the pool area, it was generally very quiet. Th room was very spacious and comfortable, housing a super king sized bed, sofa, arm chair, desk, tv and fridge. The bathroom was excellent with both a bath an desperate shower plus bidet. The room was immaculately clean and clean towels were put in daily, along with towels for around the pool. There were dozens of beds around the pool so never a problem in funding a bed if you needed one. Breakfast was very good, excellent choice of both cold and hot choices. Seating was not a problem and it could be in or outdoors. If you required a lunch then the pool bar served very reasonable snacks, that weren't over priced. Initially when the hotel was booked, I did wonder if it was a little too far away from the restaurants etc, but in actual fact it was fine. The hotel provides a free bus service every half hour into Funchal. Taxi's are available easily. We would certainly stay at this hotel again. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and always eager to meet the needs of residents.

Second time at this hotel and it still is one of the best in Funchal. Ideally placed on the promenade it is relatively level and there is no problem with nearby steps or stairs. Every aspect is good and our only complaint was that the room we had was at the end of the building and although we had a sea view we did not have the benefit of the sun on the balcony. We tried but to no avail to get moved to another room and were told that we should have highlighted that we wanted a room with the sun in our booking ( pretty silly answer when it was not unreasonable in our opinion to think that a front facing sea view would have anything other than some sunshine at some time during the day) We did not have similar problem the first time we stayed there. Pity because it is such a lovely hotel with excellent facilities - the pools in particular.

Room Tip: Go for a front sea view room that gets the sun

Dear Guest

We would like to thank you for your return visit and for the continuous choice in our resort and group.

We could not be more glad to know that you stay has been once more memorable.

As for the less positive aspect towards your visit in not being able to have a room with sun on the balcony area, we apologize for not being able at the time to provide you with a clear option to move on the day or when a room would become available with those features.

Our sincere apologies for this abnormal occurence.

Looking forward for your 3rd visit we await,

Respectfully,

Myself, husband and two teenage lads have just returned from a week stay at the Pestana Promenade. We were not disappointed. It is a beautifully clean, modern and friendly hotel and an ideal choice for families and couples having spacious, comfortable rooms and excellent pool facilities. Ideally located for many bars, restaurants and a short walk to The Forum shopping centre. We will be looking to return again in the near future.
We had two rooms next to each other, both were immaculately clean, comfy beds and the air con was brilliant, hair dryer, safe, plenty of storage space and somewhere comfortable to sit, couldn't ask for more.
Things to consider: the hotel bar is pricey, however there are many places to have a quiet drink within easy reach of the hotel. There is the usual problem with reserving sun beds by the pool. You either join in this sport, or find yourself without a sun bed. The hotel need a consistent approach to this, either allow it for all or ban it for all. A few signs dotted around are ineffective.
Breakfast at the hotel was very calm with ample seating and hot and cold food. In other hotels breakfast has felt more like a battle, but not here. Other reviews have commented that the food was the same each day. I would agree with this, it was the same each day; fresh fruit, breads, cakes, cereals, crepes, waffles, bacon, eggs, sausages, beans, potato, cold meats and cheese, juices, selection of many tea and coffee drinks. As much as you can eat or drink. I can't imagine what else the hotel could provide. So yes the choice was the same each day, but what a choice!
Great place to eat on the resort; Solar Da Ajuda, steak is served on a hot stone for you to cook yourself. Great value, excellent quality. There is a nice Italian restaurant where you can get really reasonably priced food too, left out of the gate by the pool, main courses around 10 euros.
If you get a taxi, always agree the price at the beginning of your journey and for a family taxis are cheaper than the bus, which stops outside the hotel.
All in all a really memorable enjoyable holiday. Already looking to rebook! Thank you to the staff for making us feel welcome.

Stayed for a week mid August 2014 and was pleased with our choice. This is a fairly newly built hotel, well designed and had a relaxed feel to it (high quality accommodation and attention to detail, but not at all stuffy as some hotels can be). Pool scene was great, never crowded, although there was the usual sun-bed reservation going on, despite the hotel policy saying this wasnt permitted. There were sunbeds always available, but many people bagged their preferred spot with a towel and a book and then didnt show up to use it until after lunch (and a Brit I have to say we were the worse culprits!). Food was of a good standard, freshly prepared and menu changed daily, although after a week, even the range of dishes on offer tended to be a little samey and so I think I'd go for a 3 or 5 day dining package and then eat out locally, as there were loads of lovely restaurants nearby and eating out in Madeira wasnt that pricey. Hotel guests were of all ages and so you'd feel at home here whether you were a couple, family or had teenagers. As you'd expect the hotel was spotless, well maintained and rooms were spacious, nicely furnished and had all the facilities you'd want (super bathroom, fridge, air con, balcony big enough to sunbathe on etc). Many people we spoke to were repeat customers. We resisted the invitation to go an see other Pestana Hotels nearby on an arranged tour, as thought this would be to entice us to sign up for a time-share package. If we were in the market for that we could see why people would choose here though.

Room Tip: A higher floor room is probably quieter. Sea view rooms also face the pool area and so some noise.

Just back from a relaxing 10 days in Madeira. This hotel is modern and clean. It's built on the hillside (as are most of them in the area) so you enter at the reception which is on the 5th floor. We had a lovely (upgraded!) room on the 1st floor over the dining room which was fine. The balcony was huge as it was on a corner, with a lovely sea view. It didn't have much sun as it had a canopy. We were amazed to have a huge window in the bathroom....a shower with a view! There is wifi in the reception area. The staff were friendly and efficient from the cleaners to the bar/waiting staff to the receptionists and all created a happy atmosphere. All areas were well maintained and clean. The pools were very pleasant, but there was the usual "reserving" of sunbeds which was a little unfair, as if one person does it, it encourages others to do the same. The location of the hotel is great...far enough out of town and overlooking the promenade. We were a bit disappointed with the seafront in Funchal where the whole seafront has been ripped up and is being rebuilt! All the little places we remembered from 3 years ago had gone! But I suppose it will be good when finished! The hotel has a handy "back door" down onto the promenade walkway, and is within easy access of bars and eateries. There was plenty of choice at breakfast wherever you're from. We were B&B so can't comment on other meals. All in all a very relaxing and chilled out stay-which was what we needed! Obrigada!

Only good words about this hotel and excellent impressions about the staff. I couldn`t find anything wrong with it in our entire stay there. The reception is actually at the 5th floor and you have to go to ground level for the pool, bar and restaurant area.

We got there without our luggage as our plane had a big delay from Lisbon and the staff at the reception desk offered to call the airline for us to find out more about them and they did solve the problem and got our bags back. While they check you in you get juice in a champagne glass and after all that hassle at the airport and on the bus is a really pleasant thing.

The rooms are really nice furnished as the hotel is kinda new and we found everything in good shape. All have some kinda of ocean view but if you want a real clean one ask for a upper level. We got a room at the ground floor with an opening to the garden. The terrace was ok and we really used the fast access to the pool and restaurant. On the ground level you can also find the bar/lounge with colorful furniture and live music at night. Beautiful songs and not at all noise as they finish by 10.30.

The breakfast is nice. First you can always find an empty table on the terrace and the staff clean them all the time. Second the food is good although kinda of the same everyday. They mix cupcakes, with donuts and pancakes freshly made but the rest are the same (fruits, cheese, eggs, ham and lots of croissants).

The pool has enough sunbeds although they get reserved with towels every morning and is a bit annoying. The water in the pools is clean and warm. And from the pool area you can go directly to the promenade. There is a door that opens with your room key.

Why is the location good ? Well the hotel is about 20 minutes from the hotel by car, 10 min on foot from a shopping mall (Forum Madeira) and 35 min on foot from the Marina and Zona Velha (old town center). The regular bus station and the yellow bus station are just outside the hotel on the left. The bus ticket is 1.95 euro if you buy it on the bus and the yellow bus is 12 euro for a 48hours and you can buy it on board.

A small SPAR shopping store can be found at about 500m from the hotel on the right as you exit.

Room Tip: For garden view and your own green terrace and easy access to the pool pick the ground floor.

Beautiful modern hotel in lovely setting just above the promenade, with bars and restaurants in shirt walking distance. We had a good sized sea view room. Loved the pool area and gardens- immaculate. The staff are friendly and professional. A great choice of food for breakfast; something for everyone! Bus stop outside hotel for local buses and yellow open top bus.

Loved it here.
