The apartment we had originally booked had a problem and so we were upgraded to Reid's Apartment. It's lovely and very comfortable. The bakery below is very good value and sells lovely croissants as well as very good cakes. There are also some very good restaurants a couple of minutes walk from the apartment. It is a pleasant walk into Funchal but there is a bus stop on the opposite side of the road which takes you into Funchal or as we did to the Madeira Shopping Centre. The Ritz is also a must, we had a fabulous evening there at the cabaret dinner dance. Unfortunately there us a BUT. The gas boiler is obviously in need of maintenance, when you turn on the taps for a shower the boiler starts up, you get it to a temperature which is comfortable and then the boiler turns off. You are now stood freezing cold waiting for the boiler to decide whether it will turn on again. Not funny when you are halfway through washing your hair. If you try to run a bath it takes ages as the boiler turns off so often. Luckily there were only two of us but the apartment sleeps four and I can't imagine how it would work if four of you are trying to bath/shower.
