My husband and I recently visited Madeira in June 2013 and we stayed at the Palheiro Village. If you like breathtaking views then this is the place to stay. There is no other property on the island with views like this one. At night the view is even more stunning. We stayed in one of the self catering villas on the Palheiro Estate. The villa was very comfortable, a fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, comfortable, clean and spacious bedrooms and bathrooms with lots of closet space. Patio with table and chairs to enjoy your breakfast/luch or dinner with Funchal in view. We picked up our own groceries on our way in from the airport but if you like a shopping list can be pre-arranged prior to your arrival by the Palheiro staff. They can also arrange to meet you at the airport. The staff was very friendly and professional and willing to please. Vera, the rental Manager was great and took care of all our needs and reservations by e-mail. Thanks Vera and hope to see you again soon. The property's location is about an 8 minute drive into town (about 7 EU) or a 15 min bus ride (1.25 EU). We did both and enjoyed the bus ride as we were able to see other neighbourhoods and mingle with the locals.. Walking is not recommended as the narrow roads wind up and down hills. The property is huge with gardens, hotel, restaurant, pool, golf and many more amenities. Tours of the island can be arranged by the staff and we would recommend the East and West tours. The only negative I can think of is that June is a cloudy month in Madeira and many of our days were overcast other than that, I would highly recommend this property and would return in a heart beat!

Room Tip: Corner or end units have better views

Hello fellow Canadians!

Thank you very much for your comment and of course your visit!
It was a pleasure having you as guests.

I look forward to having you back as guests again. The weather at the moment is ( eat your heart out) sunny, sunny and yes, sunny and ca. 28ºc. Absolutely fantastic.

If you want to escape the Canadian winters, then come back to Madeira between October till March. Average temperatures of ca. 20ºc and sunny days too.

I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay and a beintot!

Kind regards,
Vera

We stayed a week at Villa 34 which was on the Palheiro Village but was managed by Amr at Holiday Rentals Madeira beautiful villa the weather was a bit mixed. We have stayed at Palheiro about twenty times and will always return. The one point that I would like to get over about the village is there are wonderful facilities there the swimming pool, the golf club and the hotel but Palheiro do not make the best of this, If they ran a courtesy bus a few times a day from pick up points I'm sure they would find that the golf club and hotel ect would benefit from this. Many times we have been at these places and they are empty as it is to hard a walk to them. The village would also benefit from a small shop selling essentials. Not every one wants to hire a car and taxis are expensive although the bus is good for going down to Funchal it is not recommending for coming back as the walk up to villas is not for the faint hearted. The village has been up and running a few years but needs some tweaking as I am sure more people would return if it was easier to get around. The staff there are lovely and the villas and apartments first class.

Good morning and thank you for taking the time to write a review for the Palheiro Village.

Your feedback is always very important.

When booking directly via the reception ( Vera- Palheiro Village) we are able to provide a welcome food pack upon arrival.
A shop is certainly a possibility. However, clients that know and visit the Palheiro Village do require a hire car for greater flexibility.

Clients that do not have a hire car, however wish to access the Spa, Golfcourse or the Palheiro Clubhouse restaurant (during office hours),simply need to request and we have always driven our clients to the upper half of the Estate. No problem.

The bus stop which is just outside the main entrance runs regularly into Funchal. It is used quite often by guests and the majority seem to be very pleased. It is impossible to please everyone.

Best regards from the girls at the reception (Louisa, Cristina and Vera).
We look forward to having you back to the Palheiro Village.

We visited Madeira last week for levada walking. We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa at Palheiro Village. It was beautiful. We had incredible views, the villa had a great kitchen, the beds were comfortable and Vera, the sales manager, made the whol booking process very easy. (She is awesome). We asked for wi-fi and it was there and working, although it only worked on the living room, not upstairs in the bedrooms. A bigger range would have been helpful but it was fine. Bathrooms were nice, good closet space...they've thought of everything. I would recommend this place and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask to be away from the road. That could be loud.

We stayed in a 2 bed seaview apartment ( we had planned a 1 bed garden view but due to a late discount this was cheaper - sometimes it pays to be disorganised). The staff were fantastic really helpful with planning walks. We also hit it lucky with the fact the cover on the swimming pool was broken which really made the holiday, we had been told the pool was open at 9 until around 7 but because the cover wasn't working we could swim when we wanted which meant we could swim at 8 before we went out for the day and again around 7:30 when we returned. I can't guarantee this will happen for you but a 18m outdoor pool is a good recommendation. Be warned it is on a hill. The buses to town take less than 10 minutes, run late at night & every single one we caught was bang on time. But its still an uphill walk from the bus stop -but this is Madeira. If you've read this far all I can say is we originally booked for 3 nights but extended to 6 we would not have done this if we weren't enjoying our stay.

Hello and thank you very much for you comment.
Usually when something does not work, clients are disappointed. I am very glad to hear that in the case of the pool cover, it was in your favour.

I am also pleased that you extended your stay.
We at the Palheiro Village hope that it was not your last visit! (with or without pool cover).

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

Best regards and till your next visit.

Driving from the airport of Funchal to Palheiro Village during the night, we did not expect much - the surrounding area is not entirely pleasant to get lost in. However, the village exceeded all expectations of cleanliness, comfort, facilities and views. The large villa had a pleasant garden and each room was well kept. The pool and surrounding area was beautiful, with views over Funchal below. A great base from which to explore, and the Casa Palheiro itself is also an attractive sight. Thank you!

Room Tip: Choose a villa further up the hill...

We (grandma, mother, a 5-year old and baby of 6 months) travelled to Madeira for a week in February and the weather was great! One day with some rain, that's it! Perfect!

The villa (35, Gometa) is very nice, clean (in total i was able to find one little piece of spiderweb), spacious, great views of the ocean (all of them) and had a very complete kitchen (even a sterilizer for the baby bottles). If I were to be extremely picky and find a flaw, I would say that I found the cutlery something more for a campsite than such a deluxe villa ;-).

They have even thought of the kids, as there was a basket with kids toys, but there aren't any child facility's at the village.

During the night, all night long, you do hear the highway (and barking dogs) in the area, personally I don't mind some noice because it helps me sleep better, but if you're a light sleeper you could find this really annoing.

Service of the staff (from the reception to the security guard) was very quick and friendly!

Madeira is all hills, so going there you either need a car, a good appetite for walking up and down very steep hills or an island bus ticket. Having one of those you will absolutely admire every view around every corner. Madeira is a stunning island.
If you like cooking, you must absolutely visit the Marcado dos Lavradores in Funchal, best fresh fruit, vegetables and fish you can find, they also sell a lot of souvenirs Apart from a view pushy salesman in the upstairs area a really great experience.

There are some beaches, playgrounds and swimming pools to be found in Madeira, but if your child doesn't appreciate the beautiful scenery there isn't a lot to do for kids, so you'll have to make it work in a different way.

We spent one week at the Palheiro village in Funchal for the 2012-2013 new year's eve and it was a very nic experience. We had the opportunity to watch from our terasse the new year's eve fireworks in the funchal bay and that was very impressive. THe rental that we had was very spacious and well furnitured and the staff was very nice as the yproptly brought us a bed for our baby when we asked for it. There was also a fireplace that we used with some wood provided by the staff (unfortunately not included in the price). The location of the village was very convenient as it was relatively close to Funchal downtown but in the same time far away enough to be a quiet and somehow remote place.
The two only negati ve aspects that we saw were:
1) we expected the cleaning services to be more efficient and "in deep" as we had one baby and therefore we have a need for cleanniness; this was somehow dissapointing for such high level standard
2) we felt it was a little bit overprized, maybe due to high seasons price but anyway...

in summary, a good location, especially with babies (if you rent a car) but fora confortable budget

Bonjour et merci pour votre commentaire.

Yes, the time of year that you selected is our most expensvie season; however, it is also second to none. The New Years celebrations are famous world wide and the Palheiro Village is an excellent location to view and experience the awe inspiring fireworks display.

As we offer self -catering apartments and are not a hotel, we provide maid service twice a week. There is no additional charge at the end of your stay for cleaning.
Yes, firewood is provided. It makes for a very cozy ambience; however, it does cost extra.
Clients that now book directly with us, receive free WI-FI.

Perhaps we will have the pleasure of your visit again.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to review us.

Cordialement,

Vera
