Description: The Casa Portuguesa was established in the year 2000 by Anabela Nunes who continues to run the restaurant with her family. The restaurant is small and intimate, located in one of the back streets in Funchal's Old Town, traditionally decorated with hand painted blue and white tiles, tables covered in hand made Madeiran table cloths and lit with tiny wall lights giving it warmth, character and an atmosphere of dining in a real Portuguese family home. We have a free pick-up service from hotels or apartments if required.

Now with the added bonus of live music on certain evenings this is a jewel in the crown of the Zona Velha restaurants.

We took the offer of the free transport from our hotel and we were greeted with a warm welcome it was like visiting relatives , the restaurant was beautifully decorated in china blue and white the menu was varied and the staff attentive, the restaurant is small and initimate and we were lucky to have visited on a music night and when we arrived there was a traditional 3 piece playing they were exceptionally good ,during the meal we were invited to play along with musical instruments provided by the management it was great fun the food was excellent well cooked and delicious we then took advantage of the free ride home , the only disappointment is that we discovered this restaurant at the end of our holiday but we will be back next time we are in Funchal.

Absolutely beautiful intimate restaurant decorated throughout in traditional blue and white with Madeira Embroidered table cloths. Set in the narriow streets of the old town. Excellent food and service. Sophisticated but relaxed fun atmosphere. Go on a night when a jazz guitar group plays while you eat.

Efficient free courtesy bus to and from your hotel.

We have twice eaten here over the years. Food always good but the atmosphere was maybe a little too 'refined' and stilted and quiet.
Just been back and would recommend it to anyone who likes a good night out. The musicians give it a great party atmosphere, and the food and service are superb as always!
Don't forget to book a table. In the past it was half empty but now, its bursting at the seams!
Definitely deserves to be higher on the Trip Advisor list...at leat in the top 5.

We were recommended this by a customer service representative at the place we stayed. The deal was that we were picked up and taken to the restaurant (saving us having to run the gauntlet of close restaurants who are all trying to get you into their establishments) and a lift back. It is not the cheapest and doesn't, in that respect' represent the best value for money. However the guitarist is superb (as others have said he is the owner - if you want to hear him play wander past the Ritz in Funchal where he busks). He is self taught and during the meal many of us were given tambourines, maracas etc. to play along with the 3 musicians. Food was good and service friendly. An excellent evening with a very talented guitarist.
