This Small yet great restaurant served me the best grilled fish plate I`ve ever had for the price. The menu is clear and the chef cooks some things at your table. Considering the number of eating places there are in the area this is a little gem. Would recommend for both meat and fish.

We have eaten here before, and the food was again excellent. However, the owner was incredibly bad tempered with his staff over what he saw as poor service, leaving everybody I suspect feeling somewhat uncomfortable. Our service was fine, but this episode put a dampener on the evening. We will go again when we are next over, the cooking and presentation really is good, and hopefully it will be a more relaxed evening. If it is not then sadly that will be our last visit.

Since reviewing this 2 years ago, the restaurant has had a make over with new dining tables chairs etc. Food here is great fresh seafood beautifully cooked meat dishes are also available and presented by one waitress who works the restaurant correctly. Food is prepared in one of the smallest kitchens I have ever seen, but is always spot on. Chef appears from time to time to engage the diners, with his sense of humour. Be prepared to wait a bit when the restaurant is full, but its well worth it. Standards are still excellent.

We have been to Madeira many times and always make sure we go to Tokos a couple of times during our two week holiday as we have always enjoyed the good food and great ambience. However, our last visit in October left us feeling very disappointed. We arrived promptly for our reservation and stood just inside the entrance, standing behind a lady who was so wrapped up in the card game she was playing on the computer that she was totally unaware we were there. It wasn’t until the only waitress in the restaurant alerted her to our arrival that she bothered to get up and see us to our table. She left us the menus and walked off without even asking us if we wanted an aperitif, which we did. We sat there for some time while the lady that had shown us to our seats returned to playing her card game on her computer. We eventually caught the eye of the waitress and ordered an aperitif, however, after they failed to arrive after an unacceptable amount of time, we decided to leave and find somewhere else to eat.
Each time we have dined here previously there have always been two waitresses serving, so maybe we were just unlucky to choose a night when only one waitress was working. We have recommended this restaurant many times although now we feel that we can no longer do so and will not be dining here again ourselves.

This is a small restaurant and booking would be a good idea. The dishes are high quality and very well presented. Its run in what I would understand to be the 'French way'. Husband/head chef in the kitchen and wife overseeing the accounts and service. Table service is quick and friendly. You will probably be shown a trolley of the days fish to choose from, or there is a good selection of meat dishes on the menu. Everything was cooked to perfection. If you enjoy your food, don't miss Tokos. Its on the 'doorstep' of the Cliff Bay Hotel. Not to be missed.
