“Generous portions; good service.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

My partner and I chose to eat here before attending the Saturday night firework display. We arrived fairly early (about 7.15) which was just as well as the outside seating quickly filled up. We ordered prawns with avocado for starters and were served a generous portion of about 6 or 7 large prawns each on a bed of avocado with sea food sauce. I had a glass of house white which was very acceptable and served in a large glass: my partner enjoyed the local beer. We both had catch of the day which was a whole sea bass each, filleted and cooked to perfection. A bowl of vegetables was also served. Entertainment was provided by the jazz restaurant next door which had live music playing loud enough to hear but not so loud that it drowned out conversation. The only downside to the evening was feeling rather hemmed in by neighbouring tables on the outside terrace: there was no space between our table and the couple next to us. However, there appeared to be plenty of space inside for anyone requiring a more intimate setting. When it came to paying the bill, we had a 10% discount voucher from a booklet within our hotel room which was accepted without question, so long as we paid cash. Certainly worth a visit.

“Definitely worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2014 via mobile

My partner and I had a pleasant experience here and agree with some other reviews on here that it is slightly dearer than most places but you really get what you pay for here.
We both had the fish soup for a starter and it was fabulous. We both then had a filet mignon steak for main and we have never seen a filet portion so large and it was cooked perfectly to how we like it. We also had a generous portion of vegetables.
The service was professional and the decor is traditional and of a theme.
We visited a few restaurants whilst in Madeira and found this to be one of the better ones and believe me there are a lot worse.

“slightly expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014

The central location may explain the prices being above those which we paid during the remainder of our week in Madeira.
The main courses (both fish) were both well cooked.
The starters and puddings were ok.
The service was fine.

“Lacking in atmosphere”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2014 via mobile

Chose to eat at this restaurant due to its proximity to our hotel (The Vine). We were disappointed as from the reviews we were expecting a good experience. It was not. The restaurant was totally lacking in atmosphere - very few people there and no background music so you felt very self conscious even just talking to your partner. The food was average but was not good value compared to other restaurants we ate in - in fact I would say it was very over priced for what we received. A great disappointment.

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2014

We found this lovely restaurant by chance whilst looking for somewhere else. The service was very friendly and the food absolutely delicious. The interior is quite old fashioned but we found this to be part of it's charm. We loved it so much we returned for our last night in Madeira.
