The gardens are pleasant enough to spend an hour or so,there is a small self service cafe.
There are lots of caged birds, several of which have lost feathers by self pecking, poor health or from the other birds.Dirty, bare cages. Not convinced they are being appropriately cared for.

It's all been said. It's hilly, it's pretty, it's a great place to spend a few hours. Wander around smell the plants, take in the views.
If on a budget, take the bus. If cash not a problem try the cable car.

Well laid out gardens and well signed. A big climb to get up there by two cable cars which would become quite expensive. We went up by hire car and we were able to park opposite the entrance. The road outside is very steep indeed and quite hard work especially if you are not fit or infirm.

This is a wonderful garden high up above Funchal giving amazing views. The garden is divided into various areas, a topiary, parrot park, aboreteum, hug ecarpet of flowers, greenhouses and has a lovely open air cafe

A beautiful garden which always enchants whatever time of year you visit. The succulent section is just amazing.

If you visit just one garden in Madeira, then this one is probably the best to visit as it has the most comprehensive collection you will find.
