VidaMar Resort Hotel Madeira

A visit to Madeira has been on our agenda for some time and clearly we waited too long. The November climate was a revelation such that we asked at least half a dozen people if this was the norm and were reassured that the lovely weather was not exceptional for the time of year.
The hotel is a modern classic. As soon as you walk into reception you have a view of the ocean and this continues throughout the hotel. The front of the hotel is an atrium and the public areas are enormous so that you always have an airy and spacious feeling. The tiered levels of the hotel are well landscaped and lead down onto a huge pool deck which sits right at the sea edge. All the facilities are equally well presented and well attended. The spa facilities, I am sure, would be the envy of any hotel. The rooms are very well appointed and looking out over the balcony you could believe you were on a cruise ship. All this is matched by a courteous, helpful and friendly service at every location in the hotel.
Finally, the hotel itself is in a very convenient location with plenty of alternative dining choices and a comfortable 20 - 25 minute walk into the centre of Funchal.

Room Tip: Superior Ocean View Room - views are magnificent - all of these face the ocean

This was our first time in Madeira and it won't be our last. The island is very pretty and the weather for November was lovely warm and sunny, particularly in the south (Funchel) we made a couple of trips to the north of the island and the weather was a good deal cooler and a bit rainy. The Vidamar is a lovely hotel, very clean, plenty of staff friendly and ready to help. We chose to upgrade our room to a room on the 10th floor, the view of the ocean is spectacular, also included was free mini-bar and robes/slippers. I think you would have to ask if you want anymore in the mini-bar (this wasn't made clear)- and we had to ask several times for it to be unlocked and ask for milk for the tea/coffee. but this was a minor point. The food is generally good, dine around option is a nice change, we tried them all, Mammia-Mia was probably our favourite. The buffet on our first night left a lot to be desired!- bit work canteen, however, after that night the food/atmosphere did improve (we liked the folklore dancers though). Our final night there was a private function in the Ocean restaurant so the hotel got together a
show buffet in one of the other rooms and we enjoyed this and thought it should be a regular thing - the food on the buffet was really nice. We also enjoyed the Piano/Velvet Bar and had some lovely cocktails! Someone previously has already mentioned the bridge tourlement that was going on while we were there- the noise they were making at 1am in the morning was not acceptable, the hotel should really think about the other guests in the hotel trying to sleep at that time. We had a wonderful holiday and we not hesitate in recommending the Vidamar and would go back there when we do return to this lovely island.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a higher floor the view is lovely.

This was our first trip to Madeira and won't be our last. This hotel is absolutely lovely. We brought my mother with us as it was her first trip abroad and what a perfect place for her and us to stay. The staff went out of their way to make our stay just perfect. Our rooms were next to each other and we had superior rooms which is well worth the upgrade, spacious, clean and very comfortable. During our stay it was my husband's and my birthday and the hotel surprised us with a birthday cake and champagne in our rooms on each of our birthdays along with complimentary discounts to the spa. We were half board and we thought the restaurant was very nice and although a few people commented on the evening meals could be better we found the food very good and the breakfast was excellent. Only downside we thought was the dine around dining - Mama Mia's was very nice, however be careful of the complimentary breads and dipping oils they are not complimentary, so whilst our meal was included in our half board the complimentary additions were not and by the time we added water and wine to the bill it worked out far more than we were anticipating in paying. However this did not spoil it for us and we enjoyed it so much that we are planning to come back next year simply because the service was so good and the atmosphere lovely.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a superior room it is so worth it for the views and those extras.

We, had an amazing and welcoming stay at Vidamar. Check in was very pleasant. Thank you nelson! Room was big, clean and comfy. The dine around concept was good. Koi, the sushi bar is our favorite. Resort has everything to have the perfect stay. Also the hotel is near the centre and a very nice shopping mall called forum.

Amazing surprise on my birthday! When we came back from a day at the beach, we found a birthday cake with candle, champaign and a gift voucher.

Thank you team Vidamar for the great service! We will definitely return.

This hotel is large but feels really friendly because the staff are so concerned that you are having a good time,.The hotel is conveniently placed for an easy walk down into Funchal or the bus stops right outside the hotel, We hired a car and had no problems with parking it securely. The rooms and public areas are spacious and immaculately clean: the glass & mirrors give a light atmosphere. We had a large bedroom with all the amenities you could ask for & the balcony overlooked the well kept gardens and the sea, The safe was free and the fridge cost 6E for the stay but included the range of 'goodies' which were in the fridge on arrival & we felt it was good value,
We found the restaurant food to be very good and the restaurant staff were really attentive and friendly, I have food allergies and chef Antonio went above & beyond to ensure that I ate well. Most days we were able to eat on the terrace which was delightful, although we didn't like other guests smoking whilst we were eating.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would love to return.

Room Tip: Most rooms are sea facing but the towers give best views, ask to be on 4th floor upwards to be above...

The staff and the hotel was fantastic . Two things let it down . The noise in reception could be heard clearly in our bedroom at night. There was a Bridge convention and the noise woke me up twice . We were on the 9th floor . Do not book a sea view as all rooms have them.

We were on the dine around package. The Italian and Japanese option were magnificent, the service, environment and staff could not be more helpful. The Buffet was OK but needs some improvement although it was plain and typical it was all edible.. The Spanish restaurant is the worst restaurant / food I have ever been to. It was disgusting.
I do not know how two restaurants can be so good and another so poor?

Two French clients on an opposite table walked out in disgusted. It was so bad.
We also had four bottles of house wine( 1 in each restaurant) . The bottle in the Italian Resturant was 5 euros more Why?

The staff are very helpful and friendly. For Golfers. My wife and I wanted to use the putting green . The hotel had two balls, a 2 iron and a left handed putter. But we did have some fun.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea views and are very comfortable I would go for the cheapest. The wifi is good with...
