We have just returned from this lovely hotel & have nothing but praise for everything we experienced there, we had a junior suite (110) which was to die for ! a huge lounge area with sofa & 2 armchairs, dining table with 4 chairs huge balcony & kitchen area with all facilities. then an equally large bedroom with a 6ft bed loads of wardrobe space & another lovely balcony overlooking the gardens & sea, the bathroom had 2 marble basins , a bath with shower over & toilet & bidet. you just wanted to relax in there all the time! I had mentioned by e-mail that it was our 30th wedding anniversary, & was greeted by a bottle of champayne the restaurant was spotlessly clean & the food very good, to be honest it was a bit repetitive, but I am a fussy eater so I think it was just me! my hubby was more than satisfied. the drinks were fine for us, as I only drink the local wine and my other half is well happy with the local beers, so cant comment on other drinks. the entertainment was average, but fine by us (60 plus age group) we did a couple of trips, the west island one was a long day, very nice but quite expensive, & beware, if you don't pay by cash the price is loaded by 5% by debit or credit card. the cable car is more than worth the price, as is the botanical gardens at the top. all in all the experience of madeira was lovely & I would defiantly recommend this hotel to go there

We enjoyed our one week break at the Pestana Bay. We had been to Funchal in September 2013 and returned this time as a last minute booking. Our intention was to have a quiet break without trips and catch up on some sun and reading. It worked out fine. The location of the hotel isn't perfect but you have the opportunity to walk in both directions along the promenade. The tunnel was open so no problems there. I understand the promenade is to be upgraded at some point. Hotel food was fine and the drinks availability on all inclusive was good.
Room was good and we found the kitchenette useful for making early morning tea.
All the rooms have a sea view and I would agree you need to try and get level 2 and above. I would suggest the hotel consider the view onto the restaurant roof as almost everyone looks over it. Perhaps worth some attention at some point.
Used the free bus service into Funchal on one occasion and it ran perfectly to time no problems.
Had one issue with shower on first night. I reported problem on way into dinner and it was fixed by the time we got back to the room.
All in all a good holiday and it was good value for money.

Room Tip: Floor 2 and above for a good view

Arrived home , yesterday, from staying a week at this hotel. Our room was on the first floor and had beautiful views of the well, kept garden and sea. There were some trees in front of us but they added to the view and did not completely hide the sea view. The hotel is spotless and rooms are cleaned every day. The food was really good and varied. I am a fussy eater but found something that I could eat and enjoy, every day. There was always a meat, fish and poultry dish on offer and several different deserts, including cakes, fruit and creamy deserts.
Too be honest I can not really fault this hotel. They are reasonably priced for what they have to offer and I certainly think that they deserve their four star rating. We are a couple in our early fifties who are young at heart but wanted a relaxing break. We did our research and knew what we wanted so I guess we didn't have any surprises. I suppose it depends on what you want, as to how you view this hotel. It is true that the majority of people staying at the hotel were probably in the 40-60 age group, but I think this hotel would suit people of any age who just wanted to have a relaxing break or do some sight seeing. The hotel is a good way from the centre of town, which is why we chose it but, there is a free bus that operates from 9am until 7. 30pm. The other thing I liked about this hotel is that they are doing their bit to reduce their carbon footprint, for example letting you choose when you want fresh linen and towels, instead of changing them daily for the sake of it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Pestana Bay Hotel and it helped to make our first visit to Madeira extra enjoyable. So Thank You to all the staff at the hotel. We had a warm welcome with a glass of Madeira wine, at the reception desk on our arrival and, were made to feel very happy and comfortable by all, during our stay.

Spent four days there, on NYE, the hotel is located in front of a beautiful beach. There is a parking lot - you are going need a car while in the island. The rooms are huge, and you have a beautiful ocean view. The staff is helpful. What I didn't like, actually, was the food and drinks. Just sounds superficial, not as the real Portuguese foods are. Another problem were the lifts, they were always busy and I guess you only have one working.

Good if you want quiet out of way hideout, we did. Bit of a trek to town but there is a free hotel bus. Only time we used it, just about got on as shared with another hotel. Had to wait an hour. Said 4 star on brochure, I'd only rate 3: bath took 15 mins to fill to lukewarm pool and hot water ran out. Ended up with shallow only hot pool. Shower is either cool freeze or hot dribble. Food beautifully done, but if you're fussy eater you would struggle. Not as much choice as Caribbean hols. 2 main hot dishes, salad is beautiful, puddings mostly mouse, jelly or dry looking cake, plus fruit and cardboard tasteless cheese. Hotel staff really helpful and service excellent. Hidden costs, eg all inclusive doesn't include parasols for sun loungers. That's extra. You have to pay for everything after midday if you check out and flight not until later. Bar has certain drinks you pay for. Caribbean all incs way better imoa, but overall a fab hol. Need to be mobile to be here, everything is hilly and a bit of a haul to get too. Beautiful scenery, wonderful people, lovely overall. Our hotel was Saga central: we were youngest by 20 yrs (we are 48 and 53 respectively).

just arrived back from a week at this hotel. the staff were very friendly, the rooms were spotless and big and all had lovely views of the sea from windows. food was varied, never had the same thing twice. the only thing i would say is that it is mainly for the over 60's which even though im in 40's with 2 teenage kids with me it wasnt a problem, in fact they were quite entertaining to watch. there is a pool table for kids but thats about it. i would definately go back but not with the kids. the area itself was lovely being right on the beach. lovely walks at night along promenade. bus into funchal every half hour was very reliable. when the suns out its a really lovely place to be. if you need a lot of things to do then its probably not the best place to go unless you have plenty of money. the trips out are very expensive so we only did the cable cars which were really good. overall a very relaxing holiday in a really lovely hotel.

Just spent a week in this hotel with a group of friends. This is a really nice hotel the staff are friendly and helpful from the greeting with the Maderia wine to helping organise any thing you need. The hotel is exceptionaly clean and well maintained and in a very pleasant spot right on the beach. It is some distance from Funchal but there is a regular shuttle bus and taxi's are cheap and the drivers friendly and accomodating. We were all inclusive so all the food and drinks were included, there was a wide variety of food available, well prepared and fresh. it is buffet style service and the restaurant can be noisy at times but the restaurant area is clean and well serviced by staff. There is nightly entertainment which is varied in style and quality but they are serving an internatonal group of guests so all tastes need to be catered for. This is a hotel which suite the more mature guest , but it is pleasant, well run and in a lovely location to chill and watch the world go bye!

Room Tip: For a sea view floor 3 or above however if you choose the lowest level your patio opens out onto an...
