The good stuff: This lovely and architecturally important large hotel, 375 rooms approximately, is clean and spacious. Infinity pool outside in well maintained gardens. Health spa plus dining choices and quiet evening entertainment. Patronized chiefly by grey haired well spoken European travellers. Breakfast excellent. Beds comfy. Room quiet. View of sea and gardens for us.
The bad: coffee and tea facilities not available in rooms. Water in room is 3 Euro bottle. Hotel coffee more than 3 euro per cup. Evening dining 25/28.50 per person in house. Hotel bar has happy hour, then becomes very pricey.
The ugly: for all these rooms there are only 10 free carparking spaces. Other space available in casino car park. Charges apply. How disappointing.
The children's play area is absolutely shameful. Horrible. Inadequate.
If we could have sourced a reasonably priced hot drink in house during the day we would have hung around, dined and relaxed. The need for quantities of caffeine has driven us out in our hire car(parked elsewhere of course) every day meaning our food has been bought elsewhere too. Such a pity. Even considered buying a kettle!
We also signed up for a pestana holiday club sales talk. Urgh. Only ourselves to blame. Simply awful. Shouldn't have done it.
In conclusion, our custom will be lost chiefly for the sake of a kettle. Had no idea it could be sooooo important!More
